MINUTES

Randy Duckett welcomed everyone
and informed the EPT that Mr. Mike Lemons and Mr. Tim Hall are our newest
members. He also stated that the IE staff would be attending some of our
meetings.
Program Updates
First Pace/Academic
Convocation Update – Ms. Stephanie Foote
- 38 students participated in the
First Pace program with 33 successfully completing the program.
- They will be making plans for
next years First Pace program based on review of the last two years.
- A brief description from Andrew
Hendrix and Stephanie Foote about who the First Pace students would be and
how they communicated with them was discussed.
- There will be a debriefing
meeting to discuss the major concerns of the First Pace program on Friday.
- A total of 583 freshmen attended
the first Freshman Convocation. Out of the 75 that did not attend 47 are
actually enrolled. A communication plan is being devised for those students
that did not attend to inform them that they have the option of attending
one of the American Democracy films or participation in the Constitution Day
Program to make up their absence. Students that do not make up their
absence will have a regshold placed on their record before Priority
Registration.
Admissions
Update – Andrew Hendrix
- Andrew Hendrix distributed a copy
of the “Freshman Enrollment Fall 2007” update that can be found at
www.usca.edu/ESIP/ept/minutes/index.html under meeting materials for
September.
- Admission counselors have started
travel in their particular target areas this week.
Housing Update – Deri Wills
- Deri Wills gave us an update on
the Fall 2007 housing. He shared with us the “Fall 2007 Occupancy” report
as well as the “Housing Comparisons. These reports can be found at
www.usca.edu/ESIP/ept/minutes/index.html under meeting materials for
September.
- Deri also shared with us that the
new housing facility that is to open Fall 2008 is coming along well. The 2nd
floor slab has been poured. We will need more students out of the county in
order to fill the beds.
Action Team Reports – Randy
Duckett
- Randy asked for any Action Team
reports, with none being reported. He stated that he would be providing an
EPT notebook for Tim Hall and Mike Lemons which would include information
about the EPT and several annual reports: (IPEDS, CIRP, NSSE, State
Accountability, Strategic USCA Planning, Academic Tracking Report, EPT
Annual Report) which all EPT members are asked to read.
Campus Perspectives
Andrew Hendrix asked Dr. Suzanne
Ozment about an update on the General Education Review. Dr. Ozment shared the
following information:
- They have been conducting faculty
surveys and held open meetings with the faculty.
- They are searching for ideas and
mechanisms to foster a General Education approach which spans all four
years.
- They are also having discussions
with and evaluating other institutions for ideas which they have
implemented.
Dr. Ozment also shared that she
had positive feedback from the faculty about the Freshman Convocation. There
were just a few logistics that need to be worked on for next year. She also
mentioned the positive article in the Aiken Standard about the Freshman
Convocation.
Randy reminded everyone that the
EPT meetings were the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 2:00 pm.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:10
pm.
