Program Updates

Financial Aid/Scholarship Report – Mr. Glenn Shumpert

Glenn Shumpert provided a very informative Financial Aid update for the 2007/2008 year. Some key points that Glenn shared are listed below:

• 86% of every USCA student receives some form of aid.
• $611,050.85 has been awarded in scholarships for 2007/08.
• Glenn is very involved in providing information to the Legislature regarding Life/Hope scholarship funding levels for next year.
• The need based scholarships are seeing changes in the formula.
• Alternative loan volume has increased and some students are borrowing for 30 years to pay back their student loans.  There are tougher repayment methods and poor interest rates that go along with some of these alternative loans.
• For the year 2007 the average owed by students was $23,112 per student.
• The financial aid office has a great staff and it is getting harder to counsel some of our students because of their personal situations.
• Financial Aid has updated their webpage making it a good vehicle tool to help our students.  The webpage can be found at the following http://www.usca.edu/financialaid/.

Randy Duckett announced that Dr. Lloyd Dawe has been hired as the new IE Director and will be reporting on the IPEDS and State Accountability report.

Recommendations

Randy read the recommendation for the Minority Student Success Team about the College Summit.  After discussion, members of EPT voted to ask for financial support to pursue this program. 

Action Team Update

Corey Feraldi shared that the Admissions Action Team was looking at the transfer students and reviewing data that is needed for this program.  They are looking at what other institutions are doing in regards to the transfer students.  Corey is to report in February the findings of the other institutions.
