MINUTES

February 12, 2008

After a brief welcome from Mr. Randy Duckett,  Mr. Ahmed Samaha and Dr. Lloyd would make presentations regarding Student Involvement and the IPEDS Data Feedback Report, respectively..

Programmatic Updates

Student Involvement – Mr. Ahmed Samaha

Key points shared by Mr. Samaha included:

• The name Student Activities was changed to Student Involvement to better reflect the role the division/department plays in the lives of our students.
• Everyone on campus is responsible for getting our students involved.
• Student Involvement helps enhance what the student learns in the classroom as well as with student engagement.
• Students have the opportunity to participate in 65 organizations, 20 different Intramural sports.  Approximately 500 students participated last year.
• 12 national fraternities and sororities.
• 9 “traditional” events, such as Family weekend, homecoming, etc.
• We have 2 alternate break programs.
• Several entertainment events are held throughout the year along with “Live to Lead” and an awards banquet.
• New traditions are being started:
  • Living/Learning Society
  • Pacer Promotions
  • Student Pacer booster club
  • Dance Marathon
  • Greek 101
  • Back to Banksia
  • Work to establish honor societies
  • Renovation of the Student Activities Center

·         Challenges are the budget, growth in programs, administrative demands and time.

Research Updates

IPEDS – Dr. Lloyd Dawe

Dr. Lloyd Dawe the director of Institutional Effectiveness gave a presentation regarding the IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) Feedback report. The IPEDS feedback report can be found at http://www.usca.edu/ESIP/ept/.

Dr. Dawe shared that there were three things looked at for his presentation: 1) The National benchmarks (84 peer institutions), 2) assess the relative compared to Aiken Tech and Augusta State, and 3) Track changes at least three years.

After the presentation of the slides and several questions, Randy Duckett said that the EPT would be continuing to examine and question the findings.  Any questions should be directed to Randy.

After Dr. Dawe’s presentation, Randy stated we would add all unfinished agenda items to our next EPT meeting.
