MINUTES

April 9, 2008

Present:  Andrew Hendrix, Corey Feraldi, Dr. Deb Kladivko, Gail Ratchford, Mike Lemons, Randy Duckett, Stacie Williams, Stephanie Foote, Tim Hall, Tony Ateca, Dr. Lloyd Dawe

This Enrollment Planning Team meeting consisted of reports/updates from the Action Teams listed below.

Students At Risk Action Team – Ms. Stephanie Foote

• Reviewing regular updates about the First Pace Program.
• Dr. Lloyd Dawe will be providing a report on the First Pace Program effectiveness.
• Small improvements are underway for the Early Warning process with specific tutoring in place for the student involved.
• The Pacer Success Program proposal is going to the next Faculty Assembly meeting at the end of the month.
• Communications about the new probation/suspension policy changes will be coming, such as postcards and bulletin boards.

Minority Student Success Action Team – Ms. Stacie Williams

The College Summit has been their primary focus.  The College Summit is a means to better prepare High School students for the college experience.  Several items of interest about the College Summit are highlighted below:

• They will be on our campus for two weeks this summer and will overlap with orientation and First Pace.
• There will be approximately 75 students with 20-25 staff members.
• Kristin Allen from our admissions office is in training this week with the College Summit people.

Admissions Action Team – Mr. Corey Feraldi

Corey presented a handout about the Admissions Action Teams focus.  They have held several open forum meetings to outline problems with recruiting and retaining the transfer students.  They hope by early fall to have some information for the EPT about bridge programs being used by other universities.  Hopefully by December 2008 they will be ready to make a recommendation to the EPT.

Ms. Stephanie Foote recommended that we get a focus group of transfer students together for their input.

Campus Housing Action Team – Mr. Tony Ateca

Tony’s report covered work accomplished, work in progress and work for the future.

• Freshmen Residence Hall will enhance a sense of community for the students.
• Renovation of the SAC will help with food service with more students living on campus.
• They have evaluated the impact of the new growth on student services.
• They are assisting with the marketing efforts to promote the new housing.
• They are requesting the IE office collect 4 year trend data.
• A card access security gate at Pacer Downs has been recommended.
• Future work will be assisting with the development of a Strategic Plan based on supportive data.

Financial Aid/Scholarship Action Team – Mr. Ahmed Samaha

Ahmed sent in a written report for Randy Duckett to share with the group.

Randy shared that the Financial Aid/Scholarship committee was focusing on the merit scholarship for both recruiting new students as well as helping retain returning students who have excelled.

At the close of the meeting Randy shared that the One Carolina meetings have taken a toll on people involved on our campus and it will continue to do so.

Stephanie Foote recommended that we need to re-look at how we inform the campus about EPT.  That maybe a brown bag lunch would be a good way to do this.
