Competitive Games: 1 V 1 Variations

Objectives:
Give players contacts while conditioning.  Help players see opponents position and hit shots where they are not.  Help increase ball control.

3 Contact 1 V 1
Players pass set and hit the ball over the net.  Each contact is made by the player.  This is a good competitive drill becuase it requires excellent ball control and teaches the players the importance of a good pass, set and hit.  It forces the players to read the hitter and cover a lot of court on defense.

Half Court 3 Contact 1 V 1
A smaller area of the court will make the drill easier, and will allow for more players to play ( 2 groups of two ) at the same time.  The teams can play straight up, face to face or diagonally accross from one another.  Straight up would be outside hitter V right side hitter, and diagonally you could play outside V outside, or right side V right side.

Back Row Only 3 Contact 1 V 1
By playing back row only you give the players more opportunity to play defense.
