USC Aiken Scholarship Criteria
ACADEMY FOR LIFELONG LEARNING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship to be awarded to a USCA student who is a rising Junior or Senior
with at least a 3.5 GPA. The USCA Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee will
determine who the recipient will be.
AIKEN AMBUCS SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient(s) shall be an Exercise Science major with a desire to work with the
physically handicapped. If awarded to an entering student, the student must have
at least a 1000 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized test utilized
in the admission decision. If awarded to a continuing student, the student must
have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference shall be given to scholarship candidates
nominated by the AMBUCS to the USC Aiken Honors & Awards Committee provided
that nominees satisfy the listed eligibility criteria and submit a timely application
to Financial Aid.
AIKEN COCA COLA CHANCELLOR'S MINORITY SCHOLARSHIP
Chancellor scholarships will be based on a combination of academic indicators:
the high school grade point average computed on college prep courses, SAT or
ACT scores and high school rank.
AIKEN COUNCIL OF THE INTERNATIONAL READING ASSN. SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship to be awarded to a rising junior or senior student majoring in early
childhood or elementary education; prefer that recipient be a member of their
Association. Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Education faculty
may be considered by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
AIKEN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient to be a History major; have financial need; a deserving student (good
grades, good character); and an Aiken County student if possible. Prefers that
the History Dept. make recommendations to the HAS Committee.
AIKEN COUNTY MEDICAL ALLIANCE SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship to be awarded to a nursing student with a GPA of 3.0 – 4.0
and has financial need.
AIKEN COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship to be awarded to degree seeking student(s) majoring in Nursing at
USCA in the BSN or ADN programs. Preference shall be given to students with at
least a cumulative GPA of 3.0; preference shall be given to students that have
a stated career goal to remain in the County of Aiken and seek employment with
Aiken medical service providers after graduation. Recommendations made by the
appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
AIKEN DEBUTANTE SOCIETY
Recipient shall be a rising freshman; in top 20-25 of graduating class; demonstrated
financial need; preference to a female; preference to an Aiken High or South
Aiken High student.
AIKEN ELECTRIC SATELLITE TV INC. SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a worthy freshman at USCA;
Student shall be a resident of a household being provided electric service by
the Cooperative.
AIKEN GEM, MINERAL & FOSSIL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP
The Aiken Gem, Mineral & Fossil Society Scholarship is given to encourage
study in geology. It is based on academic merit. Recommendations made by the
Geology faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
AIKEN JAYCEES SCHOLARSHIP
A worthy and academically talented student at USCA (or incoming freshman from
Aiken County) who has the appropriate academic average and SAT score; preference
may be given to a student athlete; however, academic record and financial need
as established by the USCA HAS Committee shall be adhered to. If a qualified
athletic recipient is not available, then Aiken County Academic criteria will
be the priority determinant. The person selected will manifest the ideals as
set forth by the Jaycees organization. Once recipient is selected, USCA will
notify local media and include in all announcements the name and source of this
scholarship. The Aiken Partnership of the Foundation or its appointee(s) shall
have authority to select the recipients.
AIKEN STANDARD JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a student(s) majoring in journalism whose area of concentration
is the news/editorial sequence and will be selected by the USCA journalism faculty
to be interviewed and possibly selected by The Aiken Standard for a summer internship.
Upon completion of a successful internship, the student would be eligible to
receive the Aiken Standard Scholarship. Selection of the recipient(s) of The
Aiken Standard Scholarship will be made by the Honors and Awards Scholarship
Committee based upon recommendations from the Journalism faculty. If no suitable
candidate is selected, then accrued interest can be used to award two scholarships
in subsequent years.
AIKEN WOMAN’S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Should the income from the endowment exceed half the cost of tuition for an academic
year, then the selection committee may elect to offer two scholarships based
upon their judgment for dividing the funds; first priority will be to a full
or part-time, non- traditional, female, USCA student with at least a 3.0 GPR
or 1000 SAT entrance score. If the income allows, a second scholarship may be
offered to a full or part-time non-traditional female student at USCA. Selection
of the recipients shall be made by the Board of Directors of the Aiken Partnership
or its designee, the Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee at USCA.
AIR FIRST NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Non-traditional student in nursing program at USCA. Recommendations made by the
appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
ALAN F. BENTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Restricted to major or area of study: Education, Exercise Science, BSN Nursing
or Pre-Med. If awarded to an entering student, the student must have at least
a 1000 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized test utilized in the
admission decision. If awarded to a continuing student, the student must have
a cumulative GPA of 3.0. THE SCHOLARSHIP IS RESTRICTED TO AIKEN COUNTY PUBLIC
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES PURSUING FOUR YEAR DEGREES. If two or more persons apply
and satisfy the minimum requirements, preference shall be given to the applicant
with the greatest financial need. If funds available exceed $1,500, the selection
committee may award more than one scholarship, with the stipulation that the
minimum award must be at least $500. The Aiken Partnership of the Foundation
or its appointee(s) shall have authority to select the annual recipient based
upon the above criteria.
ALEXANDER BOULOGNE MEMORIAL CHEMISTRY SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient will be at least a rising Junior at USCA majoring in chemistry.
The recipient will have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPR. Recommendations made by
the appropriate Chemistry faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before
the final selection.
ALMENA PREACHER WOODWARD SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING
The scholarship will be awarded by the USCA Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee
based on the following criteria; If awarded to an incoming student, the student
must have a predicted University GPA of at least 2.5; if awarded to a continuing
student, the student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5; preference given
to a student who participates in campus and community service activities; student
may be enrolled part-time or full-time.
ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY/KAPPA UPSILON OMEGA CHAPTER
Recipient must be a member of Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc. at USCA who needs financial assistance; must have at least a 2.8 cumulative
GPR; applicant must possess high ethical standards and potential for leadership
and service. Applicant must submit a completed application; a statement of why
she feels she should be awarded the scholarship and two letters of recommendation
(one from a professor in the department of her major at USCA and one from a community
leader).
AMERICAN ASSN. OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP
Incoming freshman, female; major in academia; high caliber; financial need; native
of Aiken County.
AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, CSRA SECTION
Will be a sophomore in the USCA Engineering program, and have preferable, although
not mandatory, declared a major of Mechanical Engineering; maintain at a minimum
a GPA of 3.2 overall and/or a 3.0 in core engineering courses based on a 4.0
scale; be involved in activities outside the classroom to enhance their technical
knowledge, communication skills, physical fitness, leadership abilities, etc.;
be full or part-time students with emphasis placed on those part-time students
who are involved in a full time job. If the winner of the scholarship should
for some reason leave the Pre-Engineering program or the University of South
Carolina Aiken by the middle of their first semester, the 2nd semester portion
of the scholarship shall be forfeited.
Recommendations made by the appropriate faculty may be considered by the HAS
Committee before the final selection.
ANN HARRISON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Preference to a student(s) with financial need; may be awarded to freshmen with
a predicted University GPA of 2.5 or better; may be awarded to a continuing student
with an actual GPA of 2.5 or better.
ANNA JO PRZYBYSZ MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient should be a full-time or part-time student in good standing and
making consistent progress toward the BSN degree with a college GPA of 3.0 or
better; OR the recipient should be a full-time student in the ADN program who
has a college GPA of 3.0 or better. An incoming freshman recipient must have
a predicted GPA of 3.0 or better. Recommendations made by the appropriate School
of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final selection.
ANNE W. & ROBERT M. LEWIS SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full time student and may retain the scholarship if he or
she maintains a “B” average; scholarship recipient shall be selected
by the USCA HAS Committee; scholarships shall be at least $500.00.
AVONDALE MILLS CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
Chancellor scholarships will be based on a combination of academic indicators:
the high school grade point average computed on college prep courses, SAT or
ACT scores and high school rank.
BARRY JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Preference to a student athlete with further preference to a baseball player
who is majoring in Exercise and Sports Science. If awarded to an entering student,
the student must have at least a 1000 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally
recognized test utilized in the admission decision. If awarded to a continuing
student, the student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference shall be given
to a student whose character is reflective of qualities that Barry Johnson demonstrated
in his life: honesty, integrity, compassion and an unwavering quest to do the
best he could for his God, his family, his profession and his community. If two
or more persons apply and satisfy the minimum requirements, preference shall
be given to the applicant with the greatest financial need. If funds available
exceed $25,000, the selection committee may award more than one scholarship,
with the stipulation that the minimum award must be at least $500. The Aiken
Partnership of the Foundation or its appointee(s) shall have authority to select
the annual recipient based upon the above criteria.
BLANCHE KING RUTLAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient shall be a full-time student at USCA, shall have at least a cumulative
3.0 GPR or SAT of 850 or higher. Preference shall be given to a student majoring
in Secondary Education (history concentration) or related subject. Financial
need will be considered. Preference will be given to a student who demonstrates
financial need. Recipient will be selected based upon the above stated criteria
by the Board of Directors of the Aiken Partnership or its appointee, the USCA
Honors, Awards, and Scholarship Committee.
BNFL SCIENCE RECRUITER SCHOLARSHIP
To be used as a recruiter’s scholarship.
CARL CARR MEMORIAL/NCMA SCHOLARSHIP
Must be a student in good standing and shall be a rising Junior or Senior; must
have a GPA of 3.0 or better; must be pursuing a degree in contract management
or a contracting related field, including, but not limited to, business administration,
law, political science, public administration, logistics, purchasing, production
management or materials management. Recommendations by the appropriate School
of Business Administration may be considered by the HAS Committee before final
selection.
CHARLES THOMAS MARSH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient(s) shall be a full time student(s) at USCA who is at least a sophomore
with at least a cumulative GPR of 2.5. USCA students majoring in the following
academic disciplines will be eligible: Political Science, Biology, English or
Education. Students must have demonstrated financial need; student selected by
the USCA HAS Committee.
CHRIS WHITLAW MEMORIAL JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient shall be a full-time student majoring in journalism at USCA. The
recipient shall have at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR. Selection will be made by
the Journalism faculty and a faculty selection committee in concurrence with
donors. Recommendations made by the appropriate Journalism faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
CLAUDE F. STOKES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full-time student at USCA who is at least a sophomore with
at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR; student shall be of good character; student can
receive this scholarship for only one year. Selection of this recipient will
be made by the USCA Faculty Scholarship Committee.
CLYDE F. STROM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a deserving full-time student at USCA; preference shall be
given, but not confined to or limited to, a student who resides in the defined
service areas of Graniteville, Vaucluse and Warrenville, South Carolina. The
scholarship shall be given to a student other than a Gregg Scholarship recipient.
D.L SCURRY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Financial need. Two or more students should receive scholarships from money.
Foundation should be furnished names of recipients.
DAVID L. DERRICK MEMORIAL GOLF SCHOLARSHIP
Shall be awarded to a member of the USCA Golf Team who exemplifies the love for
golf and demonstrates the personal characteristics for success in life as reflected
by David L. Derrick. If awarded to an entering student, the student must have
at least a 1000 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized test utilized
in the admission decision; if awarded to a continuing student, the student must
have a cumulative GPA of 3.0; in the event there are no qualified applicants
for the scholarship, the income will be returned to the principal account. The
recipient shall be nominated by the USCA golf coach and approved by the USCA
HAS Committee.
DAWN BEE McFADDEN PLUMLEY MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Full time student majoring in nursing at USCA, shall be at least a rising junior,
preference shall be given to students with at least a cumulative GPR of 3.0;
preference shall be given to students who plan to work in hospitals in Aiken
County. The USC Aiken School of Nursing agrees to send the donors the name and
a short biography of the recipient of the scholarship. Recommendations made by
the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
DAYCO CORPORATION SCHOLARSHIP
Preference given to Dayco employees or their dependents. Preference to a Barnwell
County resident also; recipients shall be full-time students at USCA; recipients
shall have at least 900 on SAT or its equivalent if an entering freshman or at
least a cumulative 2.5 GPR if a continuing student.
DELTA KAPPA GAMMA, BETA DELTA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded to a USCA student who is at least a rising junior
with at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR and a declared major in the USCA School of
Education. Preference will be given to a non-traditional student with demonstrated
financial need.
DEWEY SMITH PETTICREW MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full time or part time student in the nursing program at
USCA; shall be at least a junior with at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR; shall be
a student with demonstrated financial need.
Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered
before final selection.
DIXIE-NARCO SCHOOL OF BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship shall be awarded as an unrestricted scholarship to a student
in the USCA School of Business with a predicted GPA of 2.50 or greater with financial
need a preference. The second scholarship shall be awarded to a student in the
USCA School of Business, preferably a minority or female, with a predicted GPA
of 2.50 or greater with financial need a preference.
DONALD A. NORTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
All recipients must be full time students at USCA who are at least sophomores
with at least a cumulative 3.0 GPR. According to the provisions of the last will
and testament of the donor, the endowment is established in his name “providing
for the payment to a deserving student from the County of Aiken to study accounting,
auditing or computer technology.” The number of scholarships and the amount
of money to be awarded for each will be determined by the USCA Faculty Scholarship
Committee who in coordination with the appropriate academic disciplines
DORCEY LYBRAND MEMORIAL AMERICANISM SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full time student at USCA. Selection of the recipient shall
be made by the USCA Faculty Scholarship Committee and applicants for this award
must submit a paper clearly showing the advantage of Americanism over Communism
or Socialism. The HAS Committee, at its discretion may select more than one recipient
and divide the income.
DORIS L. PETERS SCHOLARSHIP
Preference shall be given to female students; preference shall be given to full-time
students at the Junior or Senior level within undergraduate programs and to full-time
students within graduate programs; preference shall be given to students with
documented financial need and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater; scholarship(s)
may be renewable subject to student maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.
DR. & MRS. A. P. MAJORS SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a worthy student with an average academic record who has demonstrated
financial need and would not otherwise be eligible for other academic scholarships.
Selection to be made by USCA HAS Committee.
DR. & MRS. JAMES O’HARA FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship for a student in one of the academic programs based in the Etherredge
Center. Scholarship is to be given with no restrictions as to need or scholastic
performance. Donors recommend that an upper class student receive the scholarship.
DR. H. M. McLURE MEMORIAL SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient will be a full time student at USCA; student will be at least a junior
with at least a cumulative 3.0 GPR. Student will be a declared pre-medicine advisee;
preference will be given to a student with a demonstrated financial need.
DR. I. WENDELL MARINE MEMORIAL GEOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients shall be a rising junior majoring in geology until such time as a
geology degree is offered by USCA and in that case to a rising senior. In the
event that a qualified Geology major as described in the preceding sentence cannot
be identified, the award may be made to a rising junior or senior who is majoring
in Geology or who is pursuing a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree
with one concentration in Geology. Recommendations made by the appropriate Geology
faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final selection.
DR. RICHARD M. & JUNE F. WALLACE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full time student at USCA majoring in Chemistry or Physics;
recipient shall be at least a rising junior and have at least a 3.0 cumulative
GPR. In the event there are no qualified applicants and scholarship is not awarded
for that year, then the income will be returned to the principal account. Recommendations
by the appropriate Chemistry faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before
final selection.
DR. SAMUEL ZWERLING MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full time sophomore majoring in Nursing with at least a
GPR of 3.0; recipient shall have demonstrated financial need. Recommendations
made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS
Committee before final selection.
DSM CHEMICALS NORTH AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP
Preference to a chemistry major at USCA but Math & Computer Science majors
also eligible; student at least a rising junior with at least a cumulative 2.5
GPR; student must be enrolled full time at USCA. Selection to be made by the
USCA Honors, Awards & Scholarship Committee.
ELITA HYDE WOOLSEY MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full time student at USCA who is pursuing either the associate
or Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Scholarship will be based on a combination
of academic indicators: the high school grade point average computed on college
prep courses, SAT or ACT scores and high school rank. One full tuition scholarship
will be given to an entering freshman that is duly admitted into the USCA School
of Nursing. Any other income from the endowment will be used to fund scholarship(s)
for USCA nursing students who are at least sophomores in the School of Nursing
with at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR. The USCA Nursing Faculty Scholarship Committee
will select applicants and recommend their selections to the USCA HAS Committee.
ELIZABETH M. TEAGUE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
RECIPIENT TO BE A FEMALE; must have a “B” average; preferred, but
not required, that she be in Arts & Letters; that she have need; THAT SHE
BE FROM AIKEN COUNTY; that she either BE a regular or a special student, not
necessarily a beginning freshman, she can be an older woman and even a part-time
student.
EMILIE A. TOWLER PSYCHOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP
The income from the fund shall be used to award a scholarship of $350 or greater
annually to a USCA student who is majoring in psychology. The student must be
a second-semester sophomore, a junior or a first semester senior, who has earned
a GPA of 3.5 or above. In the event that there shall not be a qualified applicant
in any year, the income shall revert to the principal. The Aiken Partnership
of the Foundation or its appointee(s) shall have authority to select the recipients.
Recommendations by the appropriate Psychology faculty may be considered by the
HAS Committee before the final selection.
EMMA SALLEY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship(s) shall be awarded to students in the School of Education; preference
to qualified students from the Salley, SC area; preference to students with financial
need.
EULALIE SALLEY & COMPANY WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP
A worthy, continuing student in the School of Business with a GPA of 3.0 or better;
preference to a female.
EXCHANGE CLUB OF AUGUSTA SCHOLARSHIP
Shall be awarded to a fulltime, undergraduate student; resident of South Carolina
or Georgia; minimum GPA of 2.75
FRANCIS GOSNELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
The scholarship will be awarded by the USC Aiken HAS Committee or their designees.
Preference to a student(s) that is a member of the USC Aiken Baseball Team; may
be awarded to a freshman with a predicted University GPA of 2.0 or better; may
be awarded to a continuing student with an actual GPA of 2.0 or better.
FREDERICK CARL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship to be awarded to full time student(s) at USCA majoring in the physical
sciences.
Recommendations made by the appropriate Physical Sciences faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
GEOFFREY & ARLENE KING ART SCHOLARSHIP
Award(s) shall be made to Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors who have achieved at
least a 3.0 GPA during the previous academic year. Award(s) shall be made to
students who have documented financial need; Award(s) shall be made to students
who have a declared concentration or major in the Arts; The student should have
the recommendation of a faculty member from the Department in which the award
is to be made. The award may be renewable if the student achieves at least a
3.0 GPA during the previous academic year.
GEOFFREY & ARLENE KING MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
Award(s) shall be made to Sophomores, Junior or Seniors who have achieved at
least a 3.0 GPA during the previous academic year; Award(s) shall be made to
students who have documented financial need; Award(s) shall be made to students
who have a declared concentration or major in Music. The student should have
the recommendation of a faculty member from the department in which the award
is to be made. The award may be renewable if the student achieves at least a
3.0 GPA during the previous academic year.
GERTRUDE SMITH EUBANKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The annual income only from the fund shall be used to fund a scholarship(s) for
academically talented basketball players attending USCA. Recommendations by the
appropriate athletic staff may be considered by the HAS Committee before the
final selection.
GILLAM & ASSOCIATES CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
To be awarded to an Education major. Chancellor scholarships will be based on
a combination of academic indicators: the high school grade point average computed
on college prep courses, SAT or ACT scores and high school rank.
GOLDEN AGE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
Possess a minimum grade point average (or predicted GPA) of 3.0. Pursue a Bachelor
of Arts in Fine Arts degree with a music concentration or any other bachelor’s
degree with a minor in music; register as a fulltime student (12 hours credit
or more) at USCA; register for and participate in one ensemble each semester
(requirement may be waived at the discretion of the faculty of the Dept. of Visual
and Performing Arts); auditions for this scholarship will follow the same guidelines
as for music scholarships of the Dept.; in addition, the applicant should display
a significant interest and appreciation of American popular music (which may
include music-theater and jazz). The scholarship recipient will be involved in
the study, practice or performance of popular music. In extenuating circumstances,
the student may audition on videotape by special permission of the committee.
The tape must be clearly identified with the student’s name, address, phone
number and selections. Additional technical exercises tailored to the specific
instrument or voice will be required. Retention of the scholarship will depend
upon a favorable ongoing review of musical and academic performance. Students
will be expected to maintain the requirements enumerated above and demonstrate
their musical growth in recitals, juries and ensemble performance. “The
Golden Age Music Scholarship” will not be renewable in the next year unless
there are no other eligible applicants who qualify in the second year. All awards
are subject to final approval by the Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee.
H. MAC JOHNSTON LEADERSHIP AWARD
Dynamic leadership; involvement in one or more USC Aiken student organizations,
student government, athletic team and/or community groups (i.e. church, community
agency, or community organization); rising senior level class standing with at
least a 2.75 cumulative GPA; scholarship applications submitted by USC Aiken
rising seniors will be reviewed by the HAS Committee. A minimum of 3 outstanding
rising seniors who have demonstrated good citizenship and dynamic leadership
will be selected from the applications; the candidates selected will be notified
to submit a detailed essay/summary of their activities and achievements; the
final candidate will be selected upon the review of the essays/summaries submitted
to the HAS Committee; in addition, students may be nominated by faculty, staff,

J. P. McNAIR MEMORIAL BANKING SCHOLARSHIPS
These funds will be used to support students who have an expressed career interest
in the general area of banking or related fields. The Aiken Partnership of the
Foundation or its appointee(s) shall have authority to select the annual recipients
based upon the following criteria. High school candidates must have a demonstrated
record of academic work, which suggests a successful collegiate experience. Students
with average academic records or potential should be given strong consideration
if they have shown evidence of extra curricular involvement and have recommendations
supporting leadership potential. Financial need should be a major consideration;
preference will be given to freshman but may be given under appropriate circumstances
to an upperclassman. Priority shall be provided to residents of the State of
SC with preferential consideration afforded to applicants who reside within Aiken
and Edgefield counties. Final candidates will be invited for interviews with
appropriate faculty members representing the area of finance at USCA and members
of the HAS Committee to determine their potential to succeed in the banking profession.
These scholarships are renewable based on successful academic performance and
annual review by the appropriate University bodies.
JAMES MALDON & LUCILE SUTHER SPRAWLS MEM. NURSING SCHOL.
Recipient(s) shall be a USCA student accepted into the BSN degree program at
USCA; preference shall be given to a resident of Aiken County who is entering
the BSN program; it is the wish of the donor that the scholarship(s) given be
used to assist practicing nurses who are re-entering academia to obtain the BS
in Nursing; however, consideration should be given to previous recipients of
the scholarship if they still need financial assistance to continue the BSN program;
selection of the recipient(s) will be made by the USCA Nursing Faculty Scholarship
Committee in coordination with the USCA Faculty Scholarship Committee. The Nursing
Faculty Scholarship Committee will determine the number of recipients and amount
of the scholarship(s) based upon available income. Recommendations made by the
appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
JAMES & PAULINE SMITH RANDALL SCHOLARSHIP
Unrestricted to major or area of study; if awarded to an entering student, the
student must have at least a 900 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized
test utilized in the admission apply for the scholarship or does not meet the
SAT minimum and/or GPA minimum, preference shall then be given to a resident
of Graniteville, South Carolina, who meets the requirements. A resident of Graniteville,
SC, shall be defined as those who permanently reside in the area outlined on
Exhibits A & B. If two or more persons apply and satisfy the minimum requirements,
preference shall be given to the applicant with the greatest financial need.
This stipulation applies only if all of the applicants are active members of
St. James Lutheran Church. In the event there are multiple applicants of whom
none are active members of St. James Lutheran Church but otherwise satisfy the
residency, SAT and/or GPA requirements, the selection committee shall give preference
to the applicant with the greatest need. If funds available exceed $1,500, the
selection committee may award more than one scholarship with the stipulation
that the minimum award must be at least $500. This stipulation applies only if
all of the applicants are active members of the St. James Lutheran Church or
to that portion of the applicant pool that are active members of St. James Lutheran
Church. In the event that there are multiple applicants of which none are active
members of St. James Lutheran Church, but otherwise satisfy the residency, SAT
and/or GPA requirements, the selection committee may award multiple scholarships

based on the following criteria: shall be a needs base scholarship; preference
to a Junior or Senior in the School of Business with a GPA of 2.75.
JEANNINE ANGERMAN MEMORIAL BIOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient will be a USCA student majoring in Biology. Student will be at least
a junior and have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPR. Preference will be given to
students with a demonstrated interest in botany or ornithology. Recommendations
made by the appropriate Biology faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before final selection.
JERRY LEWIS MEMORIAL CHEMISTRY SCHOLARSHIP
Restricted to chemistry major or nursing students; if awarded to an entering
student, the student must have at least a 1000 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally
recognized test utilized in the admission decision. If awarded to a continuing
student, the student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. In the event that there
are no qualified applicants for the scholarship, the income will be returned
to the principal account. If two or more persons apply and satisfy the minimum
requirements, preference shall be given to the applicant with the greatest financial
need. If funds available exceed $1000, the selection committee may award more
than one scholarship, with the stipulation that the minimum must be at least
$500. The recipient shall be selected by the USCA HAS Committee.
JERRY R. JOHNSON BICENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships shall be awarded to fulltime, degree-seeking students who are residents
of Aiken County and are majoring in Engineering. Scholarships may be awarded
as annually, renewable so long as students continue to meet the criteria established
herein, as well as criteria for completion of an undergraduate degree in Engineering.
In addition these scholarships may be continued if the student pursues the completion
of an undergraduate degree at the USC Columbia School of Engineering. An entering
freshman student must have a University predicted GPA of 2.75 or better; a sophomore,
junior or senior must have an actual 2.75 GPA or better. Preference should be
given to students with documented financial need.
JERRY W. NORTON MEMORIAL HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient shall be a full time student at USCA majoring in History; shall
be at least a rising junior with a cumulative GPR of 2.75; where possible, preference
shall be given to a recipient who has demonstrated a strong interest in the history
of the southern United States, in particular, South Carolina; preference shall
be given to a recipient who has a demonstrated financial need. Recommendations
made by the appropriate History faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before final selection.
JESSICA LYNNE CARPENTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded by the Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee
based on the following criteria: Full-time student who graduated from Aiken High
School; an entering freshman student must have a University predicted GPA of
2.75 or better; a sophomore, junior or senior must have an actual 2.75 GPA or
better; consideration may be given for the financial need of the student.
JILL S. MILLER NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Shall be awarded to an advanced student in a BSN Program who has expressed interest
in and/or who has had experiences in the field of oncology and has the intention
of working within this area of care. The student shall be a rising junior or
senior within a BSN Program and shall have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
The recipient shall be enrolled as a full-time student.
JOAN WARRICK ARRINGTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Honors, Awards, and Scholarship Committee at USCA will award the scholarship
based on the following criteria: preference to a female student athlete; if awarded
to an incoming freshman, the recipient must have a predicted GPA of 3.0; if awarded
to a continuing student, the recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
JOHANNA GIBBS BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded by the USCA Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee
based on the following criteria: Preference to a student athlete on the women’s
basketball team with a GPA or predicted GPA of 2.5 or greater; recommendations
from the Athletic Director and/or women’s basketball coach shall be considered.
JOHN F. ELLIOTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship(s) shall be awarded to students with a declared history major; may
be awarded to a continuing student in their junior or senior year with an actual
GPA of 2.5 or better; preference to students with documented financial need.
JOSEPH JIUNNIES ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
Preference to a student athlete; student’s actual or predicted GPA shall
be in the range of 2.5 to 3.5; order of preference to qualified student athletes
shall be: a) Men’s basketball, b) women’s basketball, and c) men’s
golf. Recommendations should be considered from the Head Coach of each preferred
sport.
JOSEPHINE ARMSTRONG PHILLIPS MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient should be a married student with a GPR of at least 3.0 or better; preference
will be given to residents of Allendale, Hampton, and Barnwell counties of SC.
Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
KAPLAN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN WRITING
The recipient of the award shall be selected by a panel of three anonymous USCA
English faculty members from among full time USCA students who submit a piece
of expository writing which meets the following criteria: a) the writing must
have been originally a response to regular classroom assignment; b) after revision,
the writing must be at least five typewritten pages in length, double-spaced;
and c) submissions must be made by April 1 for announcement at the annual Honors & Awards
Ceremony at the campus. In the event that the above stated use becomes impossible,
then the fund may be used for such other educational uses and purposes as the
USC Aiken English faculty shall deem necessary and advisable, keeping in mind
the intent and goals for which the fund was originally established.
KAY LAWRENCE MEMORIAL JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP
Awards shall be for USCA students in the news editorial sequence of Journalism.
Awards are made to Journalism students to encourage well-written, objective,
honest, unbiased, covering all sides, news articles and features and editorials
that are concise, easily read and express clear points of view. Recipients should
have at least a 2.5 GPR and be at least a rising sophomore. If the income exceeds
the cost of one full-tuition scholarship, then the selection committee may award
more than one scholarship. In the event that a suitable recipient for the scholarship
is not selected, the money may be used at a later time to offer additional scholarship
awards. Recommendations made by the appropriate Journalism faculty may be considered
by the HAS committee before the final selection.
KRISTA MARIE REEVES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Unrestricted to major or area of study; if awarded to an entering student, the
student must have at least a 900 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized
test utilized in the admission decision with a predicted University GPA between
2.0 and 2.9; if awarded to a continuing student, student must have a cumulative
GPA between 2.0 and 2.9. Preference shall be given to graduates of Aiken High
School, Aiken, SC, and Midland Valley HS, Langley, SC; preference shall be given
to traditional, 1st generation college students; if two or more persons apply
and satisfy minimum requirements, preference shall be given to the applicant
with the greatest financial need; GREGG SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE
FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP. The Aiken Partnership of the Foundation or its appointee(s)

LEE ROY & NAN BLAKE HALLMAN MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient(s) shall be a full-time or part-time student(s) at USCA who is pursuing
either the associate or Bachelor of Science degree in nursing; shall be at least
a sophomore with at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR. Recommendations made by the appropriate
School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final
selection.
LEW PERKINS BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded by the USCA Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee
based on the following criteria: Preference to a student athlete on the men’s
basketball team with a GPA or predicted GPA of 2.5 or greater; recommendations
from the Athletic Director and/or men’s basketball coach shall be considered.
LEWIS & MARGUERITE T. BROWN SCHOLARSHIP
Only the income from the fund shall be used to assist students with physical
disabilities and limitations to obtain an education from USC Aiken. First priority
will be given to students who have financial need and shall be weighed more heavily
than academic standing. In the event that no qualified applicants meeting the
above stated criteria can be found:
Preference shall be to USCA students who have a clearly stated career objective
to work with the physically disabled; for example, may be in a discipline such
as special education and planning to work with the physically disabled; the recipient
may be in a allied health field planning to become a physical therapist, or the
recipient may be in a nursing program with the intention to work with the physically
disabled, or preference may be given to a deserving minority student(s) for example,
an Afro-American, non-traditional female or a non-traditional male student at
USCA who would be unable to obtain an education without scholarship support.
LILA K. JOYNER MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient should be at least a sophomore with a GPR of at least 3.0. Recommendations
made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS
Committee for final selection.
LISA HALLMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient must be a Fine Arts Major with preference given to a student in piano.
Recipient must have applied to the University with the intent of completing or
be currently enrolled in a four-year degree program. If awarded to an entering
student, the student must have at least a 1000 SAT or current equivalent score
on a nationally recognized test utilized in the admissions decision. If awarded
to a continuing student, the student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. In awarding
of scholarship(s), preference shall be given to graduates of high schools in
Aiken County, SC. Recipient shall be selected by the USCA HAS Committee.
LONNIE A. GARVIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient must be a resident of Aiken County, SC; must have attained at least
junior standing; must have a GPA of at least a 3.0, and have a stated intent
to study law; selection of recipient(s) shall be made by the Board of Directors
of the Aiken Partnership of the USC Educational Foundation or its designee, the
USCA HAS Committee.
LOUISE BOATWRIGHT/ HOSPITAL AUXILIARY OF AIKEN CO. NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
A minimum GPA of 2.5, potential for leadership; demonstration of professionalism;
a resident of Aiken County; enrolled in last year of nursing program. Recommendations
made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS
committee before the final selection. The scholarship shall be given to a nursing
student other than a current holder of a Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County Nursing
Scholarship.
MABEL BRODIE EISENHART MEMORIAL CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
Chancellor scholarships will be based on a combination of academic indicators:
the high school grade point average computed on college prep courses, SAT or
ACT scores and high school rank. Special consideration will be given to awarding
at least one scholarship to a freshman that intends to major in English. The
number of scholarships and the amount of money to be awarded for each will be
determined by the USCA HAS Committee based on the stipends offered to freshmen
Chancellor Scholars.
MARTHA E. UNKEL MEMORIAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Aiken Partnership of the Foundation or its appointee(s) shall have authority
to select the annual recipient based upon the following criteria: the recipient
shall be at least a sophomore majoring in Early Childhood Education with a cumulative
GPR of at least 3.0. Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Education
faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final selection.
MARTHA SUHRER/HOSPITAL AUXILIARY OF AIKEN CO. NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
A minimum 2.5 GPR; potential for leadership; demonstration of professionalism;
a resident of Aiken County; enrolled in last year of nursing program. Recommendations
made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS
Committee before final selection. The scholarship shall be given to a nursing
student other than a current holder of a Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County Nursing
Scholarship.
MARY P. HARRINGTON NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient shall be a full-time student in the School of Nursing at USCA;
preference shall be given to a single parent with dependent children pursuing
a career in nursing to support himself/herself and his/her children; priority
shall be given to a student with financial need over academic standing, although
academic potential should be considered. In the event that no qualified applicants
can be found to meet the above criteria, then the nursing faculty scholarship
committee shall recommend a deserving nursing student. Preference in all cases
should be given to student with financial need. Recommendations made by the appropriate
School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final
selection.
MARY USHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Merit with unmet, demonstrated financial need.
MAX WERNER ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Preference will be given to a USCA student with financial need. Preference shall
be given to a student stating an interest in civil engineering. If awarded to
an entering student, the student must have at least an 1100 SAT or equivalent
score on a nationally recognized test utilized in the admission decision, If
awarded to a continuing student, the student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
The recipient(s) shall be recommended by the USCA Financial Aid Office to a USC
Aiken Faculty Scholarship Committee such as the HAS Committee for final selection.
Recommendations made by the appropriate faculty may be considered by the HAS
Committee before the final selection.
MILES & ANN LOADHOLT SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships to assist students, who, based on past performance, have demonstrated
leadership characteristics and skills that will benefit the state and region.
Students shall be enrolled full time at USC Aiken. Students may reapply annually
to receive the award. Preference shall be given to students residing in Barnwell
County or graduating from high schools in Barnwell County. Entering freshmen
must have a predicted GPA of 3.0 or better; continuing students must have an
actual GPA of 3.0 or better. Each academic year an effort will be made to award
a scholarship to each class rank (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior).
NANCY ELLER MOWRY SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGLISH
Recipient shall be a worthy student at USCA who is at least a sophomore in English
with a minimum 3.0 GPR and who has financial need. Exceptions to the 3.0 GPR
can be made if in the judgment of the selection committee a student with less
than a 3.0 GPR has the potential to improve his or her GPR if given financial
support through this scholarship. Shall be at least $500 and the scholarship
shall be for full-tuition income permitting. If the endowment earns income in
excess of the full-tuition cost of one student, then the extra income will be
awarded to the recipient to assist with education related expenses such as books,
room, and board. If the endowment earns income equal to an amount necessary to
fund two full tuition scholarships then two recipients will be selected according
to the criteria in the above first 2 sentences. Any income above the tuition
cost will be divided equally between the two recipients to assist with education
related expenses such as books, room and board. Recommendations made by the appropriate
English faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final selection.
NANCY MOORE THURMOND MEMORIAL/BANK OF AMERICA CHANCELLOR’S
SCHOLARSHIP
Chancellor scholarships will be based on a combination of academic indicators;
the high school grade point average computed on college prep courses, SAT or

NUITA FEIBELMANN SCHOLARSHIP FOR THEATER-TECHNICAL PRODUCTION
Recipient(s) shall be a Fine Arts or BIS major with a concentration in theater
with a preference for the technical aspect of theater production; if awarded
to an entering student, the student must have at least a 1100 SAT or equivalent
score on a nationally recognized test utilized in the admission decision. If
awarded to a continuing student, the student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Preference shall be given to scholarship candidates recommended by Dept. of Fine
Arts, theater faculty, specifically including the Technical Director of the Etherredge
Center to the USCA HAS Committee. Recommendations made by the appropriate theater
faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final selection.
OSCAR A. TOWLER MATH SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria: scholarship
shall be $350 or greater; student must be a second-semester sophomore, a junior
or a first-semester senior in the Department of Mathematical Sciences with a
GPA of 3.5 or better; recommendations may be considered from the Head of the
Mathematical Sciences Department by the HAS Committee before final selection.
P. E. O. SISTERHOOD SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is to be given in recognition of academic achievement to a female
who is entering her junior or senior year at USC Aiken.
PHYLLIS WOODZELL /HOSPITAL AUXILIARY OF AIKEN CO. NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
A minimum GPA of 2.5; potential for leadership; demonstration of professionalism;

PRUDE McCORD-IONEENE HUGGINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Female junior education major (or a junior who upon graduation will have completed
enough education courses to meet the standards for teacher certification) planning
to continue her senior year at USCA; an academically outstanding student who
possesses leadership qualities; a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of S.C.
(Hopefully this will be a person who will be apt to pursue a career in education
in S.C.); some consideration could be given to financial need; recipient should
be a resident of Aiken county. Recommendations made by the appropriate School
of Education faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before the final
selection.
R. E. PHELON COMPANY CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
Chancellor scholarships will be based on a combination of academic indicators;
the high school grade point average computed on college prep courses, SAT or

REGIONS BANK CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
To be awarded to a student majoring in Business. Chancellor scholarships will

REV. & MRS. H. E. WYATT SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient shall be attending USCA full-time and have demonstrated financial
need. The USCA Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee will select the two or
three candidates for the scholarship. During his lifetime it is requested that
the candidates for the scholarship(s) be interviewed by Weldon Wyatt or his representative
before the scholarship is granted but this is prefatory not mandatory. When the
endowment income permits, full tuition of the recipient will be funded. If the
endowment income exceeds the full-tuition cost, then more than one scholarship
may be given based on the income available. The Aiken Partnership of the Foundation
or its appointee(s) shall have authority to select the annual recipient based
on the above criteria.
RICHARD & MITZI HEROLD SCHOLARSHIPS
An entering freshman student must have a University predicted GPA of 2.75 or
better; a sophomore, junior or senior must have an actual 2.75 GPA or better;
scholarships shall be awarded to fulltime, degree-seeking students; consideration
may be given for the financial need of the student; consideration may be given
for campus and community activities of the students; recommendations from the
School Head, College Coordinator and faculty may be considered by the Honors,
Awards, and Scholarship Committee.
The funds are to be divided equally between the School of Nursing and the College
of Sciences. Further, each annual student award shall approximate the fulltime
undergraduate or graduate program tuition cost at the time of the award.
ROBERT M. BELL BICENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Scholarships shall be awarded to fulltime, degree-seeking students who are residents
of Aiken County; preference shall be given to active members of the St. John
United Methodist Church, Graniteville, SC. If an active member of the St. John
United Methodist Church does not apply for the scholarship or does not meet the
GPA minimum, preference shall then be given to a resident of Graniteville, SC
who meets the requirements. A resident of Graniteville SC shall be defined as
those who permanently reside in the area outlined on Exhibits A & B, as attached.

SAM MARSH MEMORIAL GOLF SCHOLARSHIP
Shall be awarded to a member of the USCA Golf Team who exemplifies the love for
golf and demonstrates the personal characteristics for success in life as reflected
by Samuel E. Marsh. If awarded to an entering student, the student must have
at least a 1000 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized test utilized
in the admission decision. If awarded to a continuing student, the student must
have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. In the event there are no qualified applicants
for the scholarship, the income will be returned to the principal account. The
recipient shall be nominated by the USCA Golf Coach and approved by the USCA
HAS Committee. Recommendations made by the USCA Golf Coach may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
SAMMIE NAPIER BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
The USCA HAS Committee or their designees will award the scholarship(s). The
following criteria will be used in the selection process: Scholarships shall
be awarded to fulltime students at USCA who are seeking a degree in Business
Management and who are residents of Aiken County. Preference shall be given to
students with documented financial need. An entering freshman student must have
a University predicted GPA of 2.50 or better; a sophomore, junior or senior must
have an actual 2.50 GPA or better. Gregg Scholarship recipients are not eligible
for the Sammie Napier Business Management Scholarship.
SAMUEL A. COTHRAN JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be at least a junior at USCA. Shall have a career objective to
work in news print journalism, which includes all aspects of the newspaper industry.
Prefer that recipient have at least a 2.5 GPR; however, upon recommendation of
the USCA Journalism faculty the student may have a GPR as low as 2.0. The selection
of the recipient will be made by the HAS Committee after considering recommendations
from the Journalism faculty. In the event there are no qualified applicants for
the scholarship, then the annual income may be used to award more than one scholarship
in a subsequent year or it may be used to increase the award given to future
recipients or it may be returned to the principal.
SAND RIVER WOMAN’S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
NON-TRADITIONAL FEMALE STUDENT; A RESIDENT OF AIKEN COUNTY.

SECURITY FEDERAL CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
Chancellor scholarships will be based on a combination of academic indicators:
the high school grade point average computed on college prep courses, SAT or
ACT scores and high school rank.
SOUTHEAST ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded by the Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee
of USCA based upon the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center’s sciences
faculty recommendations on the following criteria: academically rising sophomores,
juniors or seniors who have declared a major in an environmentally-related discipline;
with an emphasis on but not limited to Biology, Geology, Chemistry, or Engineering;
student must have achieved a minimum GPA of 2.8; if a student cannot be identified
that meets the above criteria, the money will then be carried over to be awarded
the following year in the amount of two $500 scholarships. Money will not be
carried forward for more than two consecutive years. Recommendations made by
the appropriate RPSEC Sciences faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
Scholarship recipient may be asked to attend a meeting with the Association and
give a 2 minute presentation.
SOUTHEASTERN CLAY COMPANY ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Engineering student.
STATHY J. VERENES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Student must be enrolled fulltime; if an entering freshman, the student must
have a predicted GPA of 2.75; if awarded to a continuing student (sophomore,
junior or senior) the student must have an actual GPA of 2.75; preference may
be given to student athletes; preference may be given to students seeking a degree
within the School of Business Administration.
STEVEN ANDREW TOLSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be selected by the Aiken Partnership Board or its designee, the
USCA HAS Committee or a similar faculty committee; shall be a full-time student
at USCA; shall be a worthy student who is at least a rising junior with at least
a cumulative 2.5 GPR; preference shall be given to a student with financial need.
It is the wish of the donors that the student who received this scholarship in
the junior year continue to receive it in the senior year provided the student
continues to meet the criteria stated above.
STEVEN D. & MERLE P. MILLHAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a full-time student at USCA; shall have at least a 3.0 cumulative
GPR if a continuing student and at least a 1000 SAT admissions score or its equivalent
if an entering freshman. Preference shall be given to a student with a demonstrated
financial need; selection of the recipient shall be made by the appropriate USCA
faculty scholarship committee.
THOMAS F. MAURICE MEMORIAL FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient(s) must be enrolled in a four-year degree program; preference shall
be given to student(s) stating an interest in Interdisciplinary Studies or Fine
Arts; if awarded to an entering student, the student must have at least a 1100
SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized test utilized in the admission
decision; if awarded to a continuing student, the student must have a cumulative
GPA of 3.0; and nominees for the scholarship(s) shall be recommended by the USCA
Visual and Performing Arts faculty to the USC Aiken HAS Committee. Recommendations
made the by the Visual and Performing Arts faculty may be considered by the HAS
Committee before the final selection.
TODD & BEA CRAWFORD SCHOLARSHIP
Preference to a student with high financial need and whose parents are not college
graduates; student who is a graduate from Aiken County School District High Schools
and is enrolled full-time at USC Aiken; if awarded to an incoming freshman, student
must have a University predicted GPA of 2.0 or better; award may be renewable
if the recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA or better; if awarded to a continuing student,
the student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better; the award may be renewable
if the recipient maintains a 2.5 or better. The selection committee may award
more than one annual scholarship with the stipulation that each minimum, annual
award must be at least $1,000.
TOWN & COUNTRY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
The USC Aiken Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee or their designees will
award the scholarship(s). The following criteria will be used in the selection
process: Recipients shall be Aiken County residents; preference shall be given
to men and women of good character, academic standing or academic potential who
are full-time degree-seeking students; for entering freshmen, preference shall
be given to students with a University predicted GPA of between 2.25 and 2.99.
For continuing students, preference shall be given to those who have an actual
GPA of 2.50 or better; preference may be given to students with verifiable financial
need.
TRILBY C. HUFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Preference to a graduate of North Augusta High School or to a student who resides
in North Augusta, South Carolina. If awarded to an entering student, the student
must have at least a 1000 SAT or equivalent score on a nationally recognized
test utilized in the admission decision. If awarded to a continuing student,
the student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference shall be given to a
student who has demonstrated a desire in the area of Public Service, with a career
goal in pre-law. If two or more persons apply and satisfy the minimum requirements,
preference shall be given to the applicant with the greatest financial need.
If funds available exceed $1,500, the selection committee may award more than
one scholarship with the stipulation that the minimum award must be at least
$500. The Aiken Partnership of the Foundation or its appointee(s) shall have
authority to select the annual recipient based upon the above criteria. In the
event that no student be found who meets the above criteria, the scholarship
may be awarded to a well-deserving student.
UNITED DEFENSE SCHOLARSHIP IN INDUSTRIAL MATHEMATICS
Scholarship to be awarded to a degree-seeking student majoring in Industrial
Mathematics. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
USC AIKEN UNRESTRICTED SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
The annual income only from the fund shall be used to award scholarships as follows:
the recipient shall be a worthy student; shall be enrolled at least half time;
shall have demonstrated financial need.
USCA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Recipients be chosen from a different major than the previous year; recipients
reflect the makeup of the Alumni Council; all USCA students from all campuses
in the system are eligible; GPA requirements be changed from 3.5 to a 3.0; preference
be given to full time students, but part time students may be considered.
USCA ALUMNI ENDOWED LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship will be awarded by the HAS Committee of USCA to eligible students
whose parents or legal guardians attended USCA and hold a degree from a USCA
program. Preference will be given freshmen applicants on a first come, first
serve basis. To initially qualify, selection of freshman recipients will be based
on the university’s predicted grade point average (PGPA) of 3.0 or better.
Under this program, qualified full time students are eligible for a $200-a-year
academic scholarship renewable for up to six consecutive semesters provided they
maintain a 3.0 GPA or better. Out-of-state scholarship recipients will be allowed
to attend USCA at in-state tuition rates, as applicable with current USC Aiken
policy. The USCA Alumni Endowed Legacy Scholarship is available to all students
enrolled in a USCA degree program who meet the requirements stated in paragraph
one above and may be awarded in addition to other scholarships.
USCA COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Shall be awarded to a communications major with a high GPA. Recommendations made
by the appropriate faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before final
selection.
USCA CPR NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS
Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
USCA ENGLISH FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
The USC Aiken Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee or its designees will
award the scholarship(s). The following criteria listed below will be used in
the selection process:
A worthy, continuing student majoring in English or Secondary Education/English
with a GPA of 3.0 or better; Recommendations may be considered from the Head
of the English Department.
USCA ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP
A worthy, continuing student in the Department of English with a GPA of 3.0 or
better; preference to an active member of the English Honor Society; recommendations
may be considered from the Head of the English Department.
USCA HISTORY/POLITICAL SCIENCE FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP
Recommendations from the appropriate History/Political Science faculty may be
considered by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
USCA MASTERWORKS CHORALE SCHOLARSHIP
Recommendations from the appropriate faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
USCA MATH/COMPUTER SCIENCE FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP
Recommendations from the appropriate Math/Computer Science/Engineering faculty
may be considered by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
USCA MULTICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP
The purpose of the fund is to award scholarships to minority students. Recommendations
made by the appropriate group may be considered by the HAS Committee before final
selection.
USCA MUSIC DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Recommendations from the appropriate faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
USCA NURSING FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP
Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
USCA PSYCHOLOGY FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP
Recommendations made by the appropriate Psychology faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
USCA SCHOOL OF EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Education faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
USCA SCHOLARSHIP/SWINT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Full-time student at USCA; at least a cumulative 3.0 GPR; preference given to
a student majoring in the area of Business; financial need will be considered;
preference will be given to a student who demonstrates financial need.
USCA SOCIOLOGY FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP
For a declared sociology major; preference is that the scholarship be awarded
to a non-traditional student; especially one who is a single parent with financial
need; while GPA should be considered with regard to likelihood of being able
to complete the degree, it should not be the sole determining factor. Recommendations
made by the appropriate Sociology faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee
before the final selection.
USCA STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
The annual income from the fund shall be used to award a scholarship as follows:
the recipient shall be a full-time student at USCA majoring in nursing; shall
have at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR and shall be currently enrolled or shall have
successfully completed AANU 101 or its equivalent and shall be an active member
of the USCA Students Nurses Association. The recipient shall be recommended by
the Faculty of the School of Nursing Scholarship Committee to a USCA Faculty
Scholarship Committee such as the Honors, Awards, and Scholarship Committee for
final selection. Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty
may be considered by the HAS Committee before final selection.
VERNON & WAVA FORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships for deserving students as determined by the Foundation.
VICKI ELAINE PHILLIPS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Fund shall be used to support the full tuition scholarship of a worthy USCA student.
USCA shall establish the “Vicki Elaine Phillips Outstanding Cheerleader
Award” to be awarded annually to a USCA Cheerleader selected by the cheerleading
squad. The Aiken Partnership of the Foundation or its appointee(s) shall have
authority to select the annual recipient. Recommendations from the appropriate
cheerleading squad may be considered by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
VONICE B. HUGHES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient(s) shall be full-time students at USCA; shall be at least a sophomore
with at least a cumulative 3.0 GPR or an entering freshman who has scored at
least a 1000 score on the SAT or its equivalent. The USCA Faculty Scholarship
Committee will decide how many scholarships to offer based upon available income
from the endowment.
W. R. GRACE FOUNDATION CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP

W.R. GRACE FOUNDATION CONTINUING SCHOLARSHIP

WALTER J. BRADLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The USC Aiken Honors, Awards, and Scholarship Committee or their designees will
award the scholarship(s). The following criteria will be used in the selection
process: Preference will be given to a student(s) with documented financial need;
preference will be given to a student(s) majoring in Exercise and Sports Science;
preference will be given to sophomores, juniors or seniors.
WALTER F. O’CONNELL SCHOLARS
Recipients shall be full-time students at USCA majoring in Business Administration
or Economics who have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPR in Business subjects and
2.75 overall GPR. Students shall be rising juniors and rising seniors. The scholarship
committee of the O’Connell Economic Enterprise Institute shall be comprised
of School of Business Administration Faculty who are Fellows of the Institute.
The committee shall select rising juniors and rising seniors and shall recommend
them to the scholarship committee of the USCA faculty. However, in no case shall
more than two of the recipients come from the same curriculum concentration in
the School of Business. The O’Connell Economic Enterprise Institute scholarship
committee shall determine the amount to be awarded for each scholarship based
upon available income from the endowment. Every effort will be made to select
recipients who reflect the diverse population of the USCA student body. Special
consideration should be given to non-traditional students. The recipients should
have demonstrated interests in entrepreneurship and enterprise development that
were hallmarks of the long successful career of Walter F. O’Connell. The
recipients may be assigned various activities that are consistent with the needs
of the O’Connell Economic Enterprise Institute and the academic interests
of the student.
WALTER/JOHNSTON NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient shall be an Associate Degree student in the USCA School of Nursing;
shall have a GPR consistent with progression in the associate degree in the nursing
program; recipient must have either leadership or active involvement in the Student
Nursing Assoc.; shall have completed at least AANU 101 or its equivalent. Preference
should be given to a student with a demonstrated financial need. In the event
that the ADN program at USCA is discontinued for any reason, then this scholarship
will be awarded by the USCA Nursing Faculty Scholarship Committee in the spirit
of the criteria in item #3 of this document which is all of the above.
Recommendations made by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered
by the HAS Committee before the final selection.
WAYNE BROUSSEAU MEMORIAL TENNIS SCHOLARSHIP
The Scholarship will be awarded by the Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee
of USCA or its designees based upon recommendation from the Athletic Director
and shall be subject to the following criteria: Shall be awarded to a member
of the USCA Men’s Tennis Team; shall be awarded to a rising sophomore,
junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 2.5; if two or more students apply
and satisfy the minimum requirements, preference shall be given to the applicant
with the greatest financial need.
WILLIAM C. LOTT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient shall be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior; recipient shall be
a student who has demonstrated the most improved ability to write and speak the
English language clearly, convincingly, and concisely. Recommendations made by
the appropriate English faculty may be considered by the HAS Committee before
final selection.
WILLIAM K. LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Discretion of HAS Committee.
WILLIAM K. MILLER SCHOLARSHIPS
Funds are to be divided equally between softball and baseball. The scholarship
awards shall be equal in number and amount. Selection for awards shall follow
USCA’s normal practices, but with men and women to be chosen one-for-one
with equal award amounts and conditions. The scholarships shall be awarded in
compliance with NCAA regulations.
WYATT DEVELOPMENT COMPANY SCHOLARSHIPS
The scholarships will be awarded by the appropriate designated USC Aiken committee
based on the following criteria: Worthy degree-seeking student at USC Aiken;
preference given to the children of employees of Wyatt Development Company and
associated or affiliated companies; students must be enrolled at least ½ time.
ZOE JONES HATCHER MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded by the USCA Honors, Awards and Scholarship Committee
based on the following criteria: A continuing student in the School of Nursing
with a GPA of 2.75 or better; preference to a non-traditional female (preferably
over 35) with financial need that is seeking a BSN degree; recommendations made
by the appropriate School of Nursing faculty may be considered by the USCA Honors,
Awards and Scholarship Committee.
