Welcome to Dr. Jackson's Genetics Web site! This site was created as a
supplement to ABIO 350. Here you will find several links that will aid you
throughout the semester. To return to my main homepage click on the phoshate
group. To access the lecture syllabus, click on the ribose molecule, and to
access the lecture syllabus click on the pyrimidine ring.
The molecule on
the right is an example of a deoxyribonucleotide. There are three components of
all nucleotides: a pentose sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base. In
this case the nitrogenous base is cytosine (no fill color), a 6-member
single-ring pyrimidine. The pentose sugar (blue fill) is deoxyribose. Can you
determine why? The phosphate group is shown in yellow. The correct name of this
molecule is Deoxycytidylic acid. It can also be called cytosine monophosphate
A few words about the way this site is designed. For information regarding course requirements follow the ribose link (click on the ribose molecule) to reach the Lecture syllabus. In regards to requirements for Genetics Laboratory follow the cytosine link (click on the pyrimidine base) to reach the Laboratory Syllabus. At the laboratory site you will also find links to several pages that are required reading for the course. Otherwise you can follow the links below to leave this site and return to the USCA Biology and Geology home site.
