RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
Associate Faculty: School of the Environment, University of South Carolina, from Fall 2000
Assistant Professor: University of South Carolina-Aiken. From August 2000. Teach ecology and biology classes, conduct research with undergraduates.
Visiting Post-Doctoral Researcher: University of California, Davis, 1999-2000. Collaborated with Dr. Kevin Rice on research and publications related to population and community ecology of California grasslands with special emphasis on the population biology of invasive grasses. Co-PIs on USDA grant to look at the population biology of barbed goatgrass, Aegiliops triuncialis, an invasive annual grass.
Post-doctoral Research: University of Michigan, 1996-1999. Co-ordinated NSF-funded project based in Israel investigating the competitive interactions of species from two desert annual communities. Focused on productivity and density gradients with comparisons between individual and community responses in field, garden, and greenhouse experiments. Project PIs: Deborah Goldberg, Roy Turkington, Jessica Gurevitch.
Doctoral Research: Conducted investigations in the community and population ecology of purple needlegrass in two field experiments at the Jepson Prairie Reserve and one laboratory experiment. Measured the effects of the annual grassland community on competition intensity, resource availability, and survival of the target species. Molecular technique (RAPD) used to assess the genetic variation and sub-division of natural populations. Prepared and coordinated prescribed burning program.
