MAJOR FIELD ASSESMENT TEST
During priority registration (in November & April) prior
to the semester you plan to graduate you will register with the departmental
secretary to take
a) the major field test in Biology and
complete
b) a Senior Exit Survey.
The MFT and Exit Survey are administered the first or second Friday of the
academic term (typically one week before the graduation application deadline),
during the
time reserved for the departmental seminar (Friday at 1:00 p.m.)
The survey and MFT take about three hours to complete. At the end of this session,
the Departmental Chair will sign
completed, advisor-approved graduation applications for students who have completed
the MFT
and Exit Survey.
While your individual scores in each of several subdisciplines in biology will
be reported to you, only aggregate scores for the complete cohort of students
that took the MFT with you will be reported to the department. You are not
required to score at a particular level or percentile on the MFT.
To ensure student anonymity, a typed, edited compilation of results from the
Exit Survey will be reported to the department.
