Ode to the Pin-up Girls
Derek Marshall

Goddesses of the twentieth century
Pasted on army men’s walls,
Sixteen month calendars, and
Hidden under pubescent boys’ beds.

Breasts full, hips lusciously curved,
And lips flushed with blood.

They were victory girls, kissing
Soldiers miles from home,
Or flaunting sequined skirts
For hungry wolves in the crowd.

Blonde sirens, ruby temptresses,
Raven-hair vixens, and brunette vamps.

Now silver screens mass produce
Million dollar faces and mystery
Fades as video stores install
Red curtains to back rooms.
