Wish Upon the Brightest Star
Melissa Kolmar I’m sleeping under a blanket of stars With the earth for my pillow And the river for my sleeping symphony On this clear fall night Shadowed with memories. I see you everywhere Like some people see the Virgin Mary in an oxidation stain. Your face is etched among the stars, Your voice is caught in the constant motion of the river, Smoothing jagged rocks into pebbles over time. Your touch is the blades of grass against my skin, Infinitely soft and gentle, Lulling me to peace. I see the light of your eyes in the landscape of the moon, Bright enough to lead me through the dark. I am dreaming about you beneath the tumbled heavens, My head pillowed by the earth, The river’s babble my nighttime harmony, And you are all around me, In the miracle of what others cannot see. |
