CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ASSEMBLY MEETING

April 26, 2004

Mr. John Hutchens (CEA Chair) called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Mr. Jeff Mastromonico made a motion to accept the minutes from the last meeting as presented.  Ms. Karen Morris seconded the motion.

Dr. Hallman reminded the Assembly about his Open Meeting on Wednesday afternoon (April 28, 2004).  He also encouraged everyone to attend one of the Discrimination Workshops to be held in April and May.

Mr. Hutchens told the Assembly that Elections for Committees would be held at the end of the meeting.  Mr. Jeff Jenik said that ballots would be accepted throughout the day tomorrow for those unable to attend today’s meeting.  Results would be sent out electronically when finalized.

Ms. Allison Brown-Owens addressed the Assembly about the Staff & Faculty Luncheon on May 7.  This year’s event will feature a Western theme and a “Survivor Game Show.”  Everyone is encouraged to attend western wear and to send photos for the Western Slide Show.  Volunteers are needed to participate in the game show.

Mr. Hutchens encouraged those who attend the “Senior Salute” this year to mingle with the Graduates to help make it a special event for the seniors.

Ms. Christine Norris gave a report from the FUD committee.  The committee has been working on resolving 5 concerns brought forth to the committee.

·        Posting of Signs on campus (Mr. Ahmed Samaha has agreed to police the signs on campus, removing old signs when events have passed)

·        The need for increased commons areas (tables will be placed under the stairs in the B& E Building)

·        The lack of storage in restrooms (racks will be ordered for those restrooms that do not now have them)

·        The lack of deodorizers in restrooms (Deodorizers have been removed because of those people with perfume allergies, however neutralizers will be put in place)

·        The need for the curbs to be maintained on campus (community service volunteers will be asked to clean the curbs)

Mr. Hutchens encouraged everyone to attend the First Friday gatherings at Hotel Aiken.  He reminded the Assembly to nominate someone for this month’s employee of the month.  He recognized the CEA Employee of the Year recipients:  Karen Morris and Corey Feraldi (who were present) and Glenn Shumpert & Lynn Way (not present).

New CEA members were introduced.  Dr. Deidre Martin introduced Ms. Rossie Corwon the new director of Continuing Education.

Mr. Hutchens introduced Ms. Martha Hill the new switchboard operator and Mr. Willie Moore from CSD.

Ms. Carla Hayes announced that there was still space available in the workshops scheduled by Human Resources.

Mr. Hutchens adjourned the meeting and asked Mr. Jeff Jenik to pass out ballots for committee elections.
