Deidre Martin introduced Dr.
Alexander who gave a brief report on the status of the University regarding
the severe budget cut.
- USC Aiken's budget has been cut $192,000
with 41/2 months left remaining, in the fiscal year. The House has put together
a budget that would remain the same as last year while the Senate's version
would cut back below this year's
budget. If the budgets differ, then the budget will go before a reconcilatory
group.
- April 12 is the deadline for all Heads
to present their budget to Dr. Alexander.
- In cutting costs, the decision has been
made to Associate Chanallor for M year with
our own
- With the money saved from this position,
it will enable USCAiken to fill two very necessary faculty positions.
- The bond bill which included funding
to build the Business and Education Building at USCA was passed by eight-votes.
- The bond bill issue will come up for
reconsiderotion on Apr I.
- The Children's Center Is open. Dr. Alexander
encouraged employees to consider opening facility to the public.
- The Ruth Patrick Science Education Center
is corning along nicely and hopefully, will be completed, by September, 1991.
- The Pickens-Salley House has a new roof
and a primer coat of paint has been applied.
- Advertising for the Registrar position
will begin soon.
- Dr. Alexander stated that someone with
a faculty background would be an asset.
- Raises for state employees at this time
are projected to be mandatory 2% across the board.
Ginger Noel addressed the group regarding
several Issues.
- She has been working with Jane Jameson,
Senior Vice Ptesident for Personnel Services of the Columbia Campus on a program
to offer free or reduced tuition for one course per academic year for University
employees. There are several versions which must be passed, through Congress.
Ginger stated they were pushing hard to get this program enacted.
- Ms. Noel also stated that the decision
to allow employees to make charge purchases at the bookstore was turned down
at the recommendation of the USC auditors. Several accounts, are still outstanding
since last year.
