Minutes
November 16, 1992
10:30 a.m. -- Randy Duckett, newly elected Classified Employees Association chair, welcomed everyone to the first meeting for 1992. The minutes of the September, 1991 meeting were approved.
Dr. Alexander spoke briefly to the group encouraging the classified employees to meet on a regular basis for meaningful exchange of ideas. Dr. Alexander stated that it was his intention to have representation from the CEA on the Budget planning Committee. The senior administration look forward to working with the classified Employees Association in this capacity.
Dr. Premo-Hopkins commented that the "Connections" program was a good way to mix faculty and staff. The work will get done if everyone works together. Thanks were expressed to all for the fine job being done.
Skip Townsend announced that three candidates would be interviewing for the Associate Chancellor's position within the next few weeks.
Randy Duckett agreed that the CEA needed to provide input on University related issues. He then briefed everyone on the history of the Classified Employees Association for the benefit of new employees. There is a need to communicate more effectively among ourselves, faculty and with students. The inequities as classified employees need to be addressed as well. Randy made a motion that the award for Classified Employee of the Year be presented at the spring University-wide Honors and Awards Convocation rather than at the Christmas luncheon. The motion was seconded and carried. (The last line in the University policy will be rewritten to reflect this change.)
Randy read a brief description of the three committees with the following nominations being chosen by acclamation:
It was decided that a committee would be formed to make editorial changes to update the CEA Constitution.
Randy reported that a committee will be selected to decorate for a Christmas luncheon to be held on December 23 in the Etherredge Center lobby.
Tom DeBenedittis will provide meat and employees will bring covered dishes to complete the meal.
It was also suggested that a committee to formed to decorate the campus for Christmas as well.
Announcements:
Randy concluded the meeting by stating that problems do exist at USCA as with every organization but we must identify the problems, confront the situation and move forward. In the long run, that is what will make the institution work. A committee format can be the tool to make it work.
The meeting adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
