NOVEMBER 9,1993

Chairman Randy Duckett called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm.

Administrative Reports:

Chairman Duckett asked for Committee Reports:

Chairman Duckett asked for approval to add two items to agenda; nominations for a recorder, and discussion of art and other displays on campus. Items were added to agenda.

Discussed CEA of Year Revisions: Carey Mathison asked for clarification of Dr. Alexander's approval. Randy Duckett explained that the Classified Employees Association can only make recommendations to the administration. The senior administration must make the decision to implement these recommendations.

Continued discussion of the CEA of the year award where we left off at last meeting. Number 5 of Procedure section. Jodi Herrin made a motion to change #5 to read: 115. The nominees will then submit: 1. one letter of support from supervisors, or coworkers. 2. Description (written by the nominee) of job responsibilities. This statement may include the nominees opinions of their contribution and goals or philosophies concerning USCA.11 Motion was seconded by Jan Hardin and passed.

No changes were discussed for item 6.

Karen Morris made a motion to delete 2D and 3F from Guidelines section of document. Motion was seconded by Karen Bass and approved.

Deidre called for a vote to approve the CEA Award Procedures as amended. Motion was seconded by Jan Hardin and passed.

Discussion moved on to art display issue: Discussed complaints received regarding art display at Etherredge Center. It was suggested that this display may not be appropriate for all age groups using the Etherredge Center. Randy Duckett suggested we form a committee to study this issue so that the Classified Employees may have some input in future displays.

Chancellor Alexander gave an update on the display issue. He explained he was interested in maintaining some balance of sensitivity between academic/artistic freedom of expression and community standards. The administration took appropriate measures by having banners hung and signs posted so that anyone viewing the art display would have to make a conscious effort to do so. These measures were taken in spite of some faculty protests that the school was "Protecting people from art." Blinds have been ordered and will be installed to help with this problem. The administration is doing everything it can to protect the interests of the institution as well as the legitimate academic and artistic rights of individuals in the area we serve.

Nominations for recorder were entertained: Karen Bass nominated Karen Morris. Motion was seconded by Diedre Martin. There were no other nominations. Motion was approved.

Jodi Herrin announced that committees were being set up on software and the future of CSD. She urged interested individuals to join these committees.
