AUGUST 30, 1994
The August 30, 1994 meeting
of the Classified Employees Assembly was called to order at 2:35 by Chairman
Randy Duckett. Minutes for the May 25, 1994 meeting were approved as written.
Since this was the first meeting for a new academic year, the chairman asked
each person in attendance to introduce themselves.
Report from the Administration:
- Dr. Alexander invited everyone to attend
his State of the Campus Address to be held on Sept. 13th at 3:00 in the Etherredge
Center. He thanked everyone for their cooperation in making the office relocations
and the opening of the Business and Education Building go so smoothly. He
expressed a special thanks to the people in Computer Services and housekeeping.
- Dr. Premo-Hopkins also thanked everyone
for helping this semester get off to a good start during a difficult year
of transitions.
- Ginger Noel thanked all the offices for
helping with a successful Fall Orientation/Registration.
- Dr. Kladivko talked about the changes
in student employment policies. There will a meeting in the next few weeks
to explain the new procedures in detail.
- Dr. Hallman explained that the asbestos
work should begin in November. He informed the assembly of his new responsibilities
in the area of planning and research. The Offices of Graduate Studies, Continuing
Education and Special Events will now report to Deidre Martin.
Report from the Advisory Committee:
- Marshall Davis reported that the Advisory
Committee met with the Chancellor on July 14th and discussed the following
concerns:
- There was a concern that the EPMS
should be revised for classified employees. There is no plan to make revisions
at this time but there was an assurrance that Ida Fogle would let Dr.
Alexander know if supervisors were not doing these in a timely manner.
- Another concern was parking in lot
C. Islands will be removed and lane direction will be changed adding 60
more parking spaces. Buses may be required to park in parking lot D during
Etherredge Center special events. Signs will be posted to let everyone
know where offices have been relocated.
- Dr. Alexander told the committee
that carpeting and drapes will be replaced in the Administration building
where needed during the asbestos removal.
- Faculty and staff wishing to use
the Wellness Center will be charged only $15 per semester.
- The Advisory Committee members are
Joyce Willis, Paula Stribling, Keith,-Pierce, Matina Spires, Marshall
Davis and Ida Fogle. Anyone with concerns they would like addressed at
the next committee meeting should send them to any member of the committee
by early October.
Report from Executive Committee:
- Jodi Herrin reported that the Executive
Committee has been meeting on a regular basis to keep abreast of campus events
and concerns.
- They are also responsible for answering
requests for use of Classified Employee funds for conferences or classes.
Anyone interested in making such a request should put it in writing to Randy
Duckett.
A Special Events Committee has been established.
Mary Anne Delaigle has agreed to be chair.
Announcements:
- Dr. Kim Wood-Woeber gave the Classified
Employees Assembly an update on the Wellness Center.
- The equipment has arrived and the official
opening is planned for Sept. 12.
- Everyone wishing to use the Wellness
Center must have an assessment completed.
- Assessment is going on now for Faculty
and Staff.
- Everyone received an informational handout
about the Wellness Center.
- A question was asked about allowing family
members of employees to use the facility. Kim said spouses may be able to
use the facility but not children at this point.
