NOVEMBER 2,1994
The November 2, 1994 meeting of the Classified
Employees Assembly was called to order at 2:40 by Chairman Randy Duckett. Minutes
for the August 30, 1994 meeting were corrected. Laurie Keith should have been
listed as member of the Advisory Committee instead of Keith Pierce. Meetings
were approved with that correction.
Report from Administration:
- Dr. Alexander made the following announcements:
- There are plans to add a girls soccer team to athletics
if this sport is approved by the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. We should
know by February if this will be approved.
- The third reading on the swimming pool will be on the
third Tuesday in November. If approved money would be available in January
and construction could begin by midspring.
- If everything goes according to plan LAN should be completed
in one year.
- Plans to request money to renovate classroom building
and request matching money for expansion of the Ruth Patrick Science Education
Building in 1995.
- Plans for an Industrial Math Degree. It would be the
only degree of its kind in South Carolina and would be offered in partnership
with Aiken Technical College. This degree would provide a strong component
of math and engineering and require an internship in industry. The earliest
it would be available would be next fall.
- Congratulated the Athletic Department on a successful
auction. They raised about $10,000.
- Dr. Hallman gave an update on the asbestos project in the
Administration building. Plans are to merge two parallel projects (heat and
air renovation and roof repairs with asbestos removal). This would give us
a bigger pot of money to operate out of.
- Ms. Noel does not expect an update on the budget until January.
She requested we encourage all students to preregister. TIPS is active.
- Dr. KIadivko said student employment evaluation forms are
being finalized. There will be a meeting scheduled for supervisors in a week
or so.
- Randy Duckett thanked the senior administrators for making
the CEA meetings a priority.
Report from Committees:
- Orientation Committee is developing orientation procedures
for classified employees. These rec ns will be forwarded to the Executive
Committee.
- Special Events Committee - please contact Mary Anne Delaigic
if there is an event CEA should be involved in.
Announcements:
Randy Duckett is on the Institutional Planning
Cabinet as a representative for the classified employees. Minutes will be sent
to classified employees. If you have any questions or concerns please contact
Randy.
