CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ASSEMBLY
MINUTES
March 6,1996
The March 6,
1996, meeting of the Classified Employees Assembly was called to order at 2:00
PM by Chairperson Jodi Herrin. The minutes of the November 29, 1995 meeting
were accepted and approved as read by the Assembly.
Reports from Administration
Dr. Alexander
reported the budget has made it through the house and it looks as though a
raise for state employees will be in the amount of 2% for those making $50,000
or less per year and $1,000 for anyone making over $50,000. This amount may
possibly be modified in the Senate ‑ hopefully for 3.75%. Dr. Alexander feels that budget wise we are
doing better than we have in the past four to five years.
Dr. Alexander
continued to report on the progress of the funding for the RPSEC addition and
the Nursing Building. The one time funding budget is already in place for
Nursing. The Governor visited the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center when he
was here and Dr. Alexander thinks we may get funding for RPSEC also.
Regarding the
Administration Building, John Malmrose reported they are negotiating with the
bond and insurance companies. The specifications will be put in the bidders
hands on Monday, March 11, 1996. Bids will be in tomorrow (Thursday, March 7)
for the natatorium. Additional funds may become available if it comes in over
budget. A gift to Nursing will probably be awarded this summer or fall from the
hospital.

Status of
Classified Employees Survey: All surveys have gone to Printing. They will be
sent to unit heads sometime next week. Copies of all surveys will be in the
Office of Assessment and Institutional Planning and the Library for perusal.
The question arose as to whether or not these surveys should be done every
year? One group at a time is a possibility, also once every three years. Dr. Hallman asked for input ‑ such as once a year‑ please let
him know. Every two or three years for Assessment Office purposes? Let Jodi
Herrin or the Advisory Committee know.
New Business
1) The
Resolutions Committee is responsible for the awards process through retirement.
There has not been much activity with the committee in the last few years. Al
Woodward made a motion to dissolve the committee, the action was 2nd by Skip
Townsend. All in the Assembly were in favor of the proposal, none opposed.
2) Randy
Duckett reported for the IPC (Institutional Planning Committee). They have
formed a Computer Task Force ‑ as technology is very important at USCA.
The committee also looks at budget requests. When money is available,
everyone's request is taken into consideration. This committee also decides on
faculty positions. Dr. Alexander keeps them up to
date. The request has to go through this committee to get approval for any position.
Dr. Hallman
stated that the [PC will begin a review this month. He will furnish us with the
seven goals of the committee at a later date. Documents to let faculty/staff
know what is going on will be distributed. The unit head should dispatch the
information to employees.
