CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ASSEMBLY MINUTES
June 4,1996
The June 4, 1996 meeting of
the Classified Employees Assembly was called to order at 2:30 PM by Chairperson
Jodi Herrin. The Minutes of the March 6, 1996 meeting were read and approved as
corrected by the Assembly. Mike Findley's name was added to the employees in
attendance of the March 6th meeting.
Reports from Administration
Dr. Alexander was not in
attendance at the meeting. Dr. Tom Hallman reported the strategic goals are
largely completed. The final goal report is to be reviewed by the executive
committee. All USCA faculty and staff will receive a copy of the final report.
A forum is planned for the Fall to discuss solutions for our goals.
Ginger Noel reported the
state has approved a budget increase of $400,000 from last year for USCA.
Approval was given for 3 faculty positions, 1 a BS in nursing position, 1
spanish faculty position, and one for the M.Ed. program. 2 staff positions =
(1) sports information director position and also includes additional funding
for acquisitions for the MED Program (2) funding for library for MED program. 3
permanent staff positions for Operations.
A 3.4% pay raise for CEA employees will take effect
on October 1, 1996.
There is a funding projects
"wish list." The Nursing Building is #32 on the list and hopefully
funds will become available in the Fall.
Ms. Noel explained the new
Technology and Health Fee that will go into effect this fall. It will be a
total of $60.00 for full time*students. $50.00 for the technology fee and
$10.00 for the health fee. The part time students' fee will be prorated. Our fee
is still 17% below the average of 4 year institutions in the state of South
Carolina. Our current tuition is $1,354.00 per semester. Ginger reported that
USC Aiken has the second lowest ratio of staff per student. We have a need for
$2.4 million worth of computer equipment that can no longer be ignored.
Tax money from Aiken County
is being applied to the Wellness program. County moneys have contributed to the
LAN being installed and the pool. We have also received $1.7 millions dollars
worth of land.
The Technology Fee of $50.00
will be dedicated for computer replacement. At the present time it is projected
to replace $800,000 worth of computer. Rick Huston will be invited to speak to
us in the Fall and give us an update.
The Health Fee will be used
for basic services at Aiken Regional Medical Center in the Express Care Unit.
The students will only pay $10.00 per semester. Exclusions from this service
will be employees, senior citizens, and teacher cadets. This service will be
available to anyone paying regular tuition. The fee is "per
semester." We are still in the process of looking for accident/emergency
insurance for students.
