April 10, 2003

 

I.          Call to Order

The Classified Employees Assembly was called to order by the CEA Chairperson, Jeff Jenik, who welcomed everyone to the meeting and explained that he expected the meeting to be a short one.  After reminding everyone that the CEA minutes from the previous meetings are always available on the CEA website, Mr. Jenik asked for a motion to approve the minutes of February 6, 2003. Carol Cutsinger made the motion to approve those minutes, Karen Morris seconded, and the minutes were approved as is. Since Dr. Hallman could not be present for the meeting, Jeff introduced John Hutchens, Chair of CEA Nominating Committee to give an update of the CEA Elections and the new voting process.

 

II.        Reports from CEA Committees

A.                 John Hutchens, Chair of the CEA Nominating Committee

Mr. Hutchens explained that this year for the first time, the committee will offer two methods of voting.  CEA members can submit votes using the traditional ballot box or voting via the internet. Online voting times will run from 3:00pm Thursday, April 10 until  2:00pm on Friday, April 11.  The online ballot can be located at http://www.usca.edu/ceavote.  The CEA ballot box will be available after 3:00pm Friday, April 11 in the Maintenance & Supply Office  and until 2:00pm on Monday, April 14 in the Admissions Office.  Mr. Jenik reminded everyone that online voting would close at 2:00pm on Friday.  Mr. Hutchens then announced the nominees for each committee as well as for the officers. 

 

B.                 Jeff Jenik, Chair of CEA

1.      Jeff Jenik announced the CEA Employee of the Year Award winners.

§        Michael Casdorph, Computer Services Division

§        John Cumbee, Supply & Maintenance

§        Angela Taylor, Admissions Office

§        Sylvia Williams, Financial Aid Office

These winners will receive a cash award and will be honored at Academic Convocation.

2.      Mr. Jenik went on to discuss the recently suggested Employee of the Month award.  This award would be given on a monthly basis and would be tied into the the City of Aikens Character of the Month program.  This award is still in discussion, and more information will be given as plans for the award evolve.

 

C.                 Allison Brown-Owens, Appreciation Luncheon Chair

1.      This year’s annual faculty/staff appreciation luncheon will be held Friday, May 9.  The theme will be the fabulous 1950s, and there will be great food, awards, games and door prizes.  She encouraged everyone to attend, and also asked that if anyone had any 50’s memorabilia that they would like to donate or loan for decorations to please contact her in Career Services.

 

IV.              Reports from the CEA Chair

Mr. Jenik reminded everyone of Dr. Sorenson’s upcoming visit to our campus and encouraged everyone to attend.

 

V.                 Announcements

Jean Haynes announced that Kids in College will be starting up soon as summer approaches offering a variety of academic and athletic camps for kids in first through twelfth grades.  Interested individuals can contact her or Jackie Brown (for Athletic Camps) for more information or visit the Continuing Education web site.

 

Kim Durden made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by John Hutchens.
