April 23, 2007 CEA meeting

Called to order by Jeff Jenik at 2:38PM in., B and E 140.

Jeff welcomes everyone  and new members to meeting. Asked for changes to last meetings minutes. No changes were put in. Jeff introduces Tom Hallman.

TH- In light of the events at VT last week, it is on everyones mind. What are the implications for USCA?  We will be looking at our emergency plan. Should be getting copies out and have it on the web, Should we be looking at technology solutions? There are limits to what a public society can do. This is not something that we will be able to stop. Our job is to take appropriate steps to try and avoid such an incident. Faculty and staff will have a chance to be in a session with Cindy Gelinas.

Budget- broad brush- senate version not as favorable as House. House version would give us more, 50% tuition increase is what we are estimating.

Thursday is the opening for the convocation center, faculty and staff, also on Thursday unveiling of new USCA logo. Friday at 10AM is the Ribbon cutting ceremony. Lots of speakers for this day. Within the next several weeks expect to begin construction on the new housing. (Will have official ground breaking later). Expected to open Fall 08, 300 beds solely for freshman. It will have a little bit different design than our current housing. For the first time this summer we will offer 3 orientation sessions, which will put more pressure on faculty and staff. Deidre Martin’s staff has raised $3.1 million so far this year.

Jeff then introduced Margaret West of the SC State Employees Association. She stated that our campus only has 14 members and more are needed to let our voice be heard. The State House does not listen to such small numbers.

Ginger Hudock ask what the organization is doing about the future of our retirement.?

They are always at meetings and work to keep employees abreast of all new information. Please Join the SCSEA!

Jeff  then introduced Randy Duckett, he spoke on the Enrollment Planning Team (EPT).

EPT is made up of people from across the campus. They are assigned to look at the strategic plan. There is a program review action team, campus housing team, financial aid / scholarship team, Freshman Admissions team, Minority student action team, students at risk action team and others.. They are all looking at enrollment from a lot of different aspects of enrollment and have sparked many discussions and views for the campus to

Work with.
