Undergraduate research advisee, Ms. Melissa Warren, was awarded the “Undergraduate Research Award” for her research presentation, “Chemical Characterization of Pigmented Sclerites from Diseased Coral Sea Fans” at the South Carolina Academy of Science Annual Meeting in the Spring of 2006. Melissa also won “Best Undergraduate Female Scientist” by the American Association for the Advancement of Science based on the same research project. Dr. Chad Leverette and Dr. Garriet Smith (USC Aiken Dept. of Biology and Geology) served as her research advisors. Melissa graduated from USC Aiken in the May of 2006 with dual degrees in Chemistry and Biology. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Dept. of Chemistry at the University of Georgia.
