Dr. Chad Leverette, assistant professor of chemistry at USC Aiken, recently received funding for his grant proposal submitted to the Savannah River National Laboratory, part of the Westinghouse Savannah River Company.   Entitled “Differentiation of Uranyl Ion Complexes Utilizing Surface-Enhanced Vibrational Spectroscopy", the grant is being funded at $27,191 to be spent over 6 months starting May 30, 2007. This research focuses on low level uranyl ion detection and characterization using both surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface-enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) spectroscopy.
