03.11.08 ----- Dr. Leverette gave a presentation at the 59th Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy on March 5, 2008 in New Orleans, LA. The talk was titled "Differentiation of Uranyl Ion Cast Films Utilizing Surface-Enhanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (SEVS)".


03.11.08 ----- Dr. Leverette's most recent collaborative work using Raman microscopy to probe coral reef disease was published in this month's issue of Spectrochimica Acta. This work was a collaboration with Dr. Garriet Smith (USCA Dept. of Biology and Geology), who is an expert in coral reef disease. The title of the publication is "Carotenoid is the Purple Pigment in Gorgonia Ventalina Sclerites." (Spectrochimica Acta 2008, 69, 1058-1061)


09.14.07 ----- The 2007 Annual Chemistry/Physics Alumni reception is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 6-8:30 pm in B&E 116. Come and enjoy free pizza from the Acropolis while having fellowship with USCA Chemistry and Physics faculty, their families, and current and former USCA chemistry students. Hope to see you there!


09.01.07 ----- Dr. Nandeo Choony, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, is the newest addition to the USCA Chemistry and Physics faculty. Dr. Choony will be teaching Organic Chemistry I and II for our Department. Dr. Choony's research interests are focused on novel organic synthesis using the Diels-Alder and ene reactions. Welcome to our Department, Dr. Choony.


08.24.07 ----- Dr. Ann Willbrand, Associate Professor of Chemistry, retired from the USCA Chemistry and Physics faculty at the end of the Spring 2007 term after 22 years of faithful service teaching in the areas of Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry. Thank you, Dr. Willbrand, for your service to our Department!


07.26.07 ----- Mr. Pierre Negri, a senior chemistry major, was recently named a recipient of the 2007-2008 NCAA Division II Degree-Completion Scholarship Award. Pierre was one of 89 award winners nationwide. Pierre, a native of Chambery, France, ended his four-year career with more single wins than any other USC Aiken men's tennis player. He also has the fourth most career doubles wins. Congratulations Pierre!


07.17.07 ----- All of our 2006-2007 chemistry graduates have found employment in chemistry.  Ms. Michelle Williams and Mr. Chad Durden are employed at Savannah River National Lab, Mr. Andrew Perkins at Milliken Corporation in Barnwell, SC, and Mr. Russell Gray at CyTech in North Augusta.  Congratulations Michelle, Chad, Andrew, and Russell.

06.11.07 ----- Dr. Fetterolf, professor of Chemistry and chair, recently published an article entitled "Enhanced Intensity Distribution Analysis of the Rotational-Vibrational Spectrum of HCl" in the June 2007 edition of the American Chemical Society's Journal of Chemical Education.


06.06.07 ----- Westinghouse Savannah River Company through the Savannah River National Laboratory will fund a 6 month grant for research to Dr. Leverette in the amount of $27,191...read more
