Philanthropy at Lambda Chi Alpha
We here at Lambda Chi Alpha pride ourselves on our dedication to philanthropy. Throughout the year, we participate in different philanthropies raising money for various charitable organizations. Watermelon Bust, our own philanthropy event, is a Watermelon Olympic type competition between the sororities here at USC Aiken. We raise money for Golden Harvest Food Bank, our local can food collector. In 2009-2009 we raised over 500,000 pounds of food which was the national record. As our National Philanthropy is the North American Food Drive, we spend countless hours trying to promote to our local community that hunger is a problem that exists everywhere, and we can all do our part to stop it. One of our favorite events is our annual Spooky to be Hungry event. We partner up with the school to have a haunted hike and collect canned foods.
Although it is not mandatory, most chapters here on Aiken's campus host a local philanthropic event for the common good of our community. It is thus expected here at Lambda Chi Alpha that each member participate in these events to the best of their ability to help raise awareness in our community.

National Record
Our local philanthropy is Golden Harvest Food Bank, located in Augusta, GA. In 2008 we set the national record for most canned foods raised with over 500,000 pounds of canned foods, which we donated to Golden Harvest.

Watermelon Bust
This is an event we hold at USC Aiken where we have all the sororities compete in olympic styled games all having watermelons involved. It's a week long and consists of several events like watermelon toss and even a Mrs. Watermelon Bust competition.
