The USCA Department of Communications held its first-ever alumni reception on Saturday, February 3, 2007 just before the Homecoming basketball games. Welcome back, USCA communications alumni! The reception, held in the Greg-Graniteville Room of the library, brought alumni together with current students and faculty. Distinguished Professor Emerita Sandy Hochel came as well.

Four USC Aiken communications alumnae returned to H&SS 109 to participate in a Career Panel in October 2006. Jenny summarized advice given by all of them: "Take advantage of every opportunity you have while you're here at school. You'll need everything you can learn and more."
Alumni Researcher -- September 2006
Stephanie Fraley, a 2005 USCA graduate, gave her paper, "2004 Republican Presidential Nominating Convention Keynote Speaker: Zell Miller," as part of the Mary E. Jarrad undergraduate paper Competition at the Carolinas Communication Association Conference, September 23-24, 2006. Ms. Fraley prepared her paper as part of the requirements for the ACOM 462 Political Rhetoric class last fall. Congratulations to Ms. Fraley!
Alumni News
Becki (Black) Stokes (2004) has returned to Aiken to accept a position as layout designer at the Aiken Standard. A happy newlywed, Becki married Corey Stokes in September 2007.
Mary Beth Brookshire is working at Lincare, Inc.
Oliver Hadden (2006) has been hired as a full-time public safety officer with the Aiken County Public Safety Department. He is also a noncommissioned officer in the Air National Guard.
Robyn Watson (2005) is planning to attend graduate school at the University of Texas in Austin.
Huntley Edward Duryea (2004) wed Gloria Knisley on April 14, 2007. He is employed by the John Demosthenes Company, and he and Gloria reside in Beaufort, South Carolina.
Melissa Basile is working for the Aiken County United Way. She is the Director of Marketing.
Jenny Anderson (2003) is employed by the South Carolina Medical Association.
Leroy Walker was recently accepted into a Master's Degree program in USCA's School of Education.
Kami Bigham Rice (2005) has settled in Aiken with her husband, Glen.
Jason Hancock (2002) expects to receive his M.A. from USC-Columbia in May 2006. He married USCA alum Bonnie Nations in June 2005; they live in Columbia, S.C. They plan to open a graphic design company after he graduates.
Travis Burt (2002) has been working since 2002 for the Penske Corporation in Columbia, Manassas, Virginia, and now back in South Carolina.
Becki Black (2005) is now working as a copy editor and page designer for the Morning News in Florence, South Carolina.
Melissa Lamkin (2003) serves as Assistant Editor for Women's Health and Fitness, a mass-market magazine. She is living in Georgia.
Raetta Madriz (2002) was recently selected to teach 7th and 8th graders at a new school in Augusta which is designed to serve underprivileged children.
Katie Rokus (2003) is an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She is working with former USCA coach Phil Stern.
Wes Riddle (2003) is in Athens, Georgia, where he will be working on earning a Master's Degree in Student Personnel Services from the University of Georgia.
Kristin Allen (2003) was recently hired as an Admissions Counselor for USCA.
