Online Learning
Our instructor-facilitated online courses are informative, fun,
convenient, and highly interactive. All courses run for six weeks (with a
two-week grace period at the end). Courses are project-oriented and include
lessons, quizzes, hands-on assignments, discussion areas, supplementary
links, and more. You can complete any of these courses entirely from your
home or office and at any time of the day or night.
These online classes begin January 19, February 16, March
16, April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, and August 17.

2 . At the website above, click the Orientation link and follow the
instructions. During orientation, you will learn important information
about your course. You will also be provided an opportunity to choose
the name and password you will use to access your course. This step
is critical! You cannot access your course until you complete orientation.
3. Call the Office of Continuing Education at
(803) 641-3563 with the course name, number, and payment information.
4. When your course starts, return to our Online Instruction Center
and click the Classroom link. To begin your studies, simply log in with
the name and password you provided during
orientation.

PARALEGAL I AND II (ONLINE)
This nationally acclaimed program is designed for
beginning as well as advanced legal workers. Students will be trained to
investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, interview witnesses and
assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. The instruction is
practice-oriented and relates to those areas of the law in which legal
assistants are most in demand. This course is also effective in careers
where knowledge of the law is a plus. There are no prerequisites. Successful
graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion from USC Aiken. To be
awarded the certificate, students must successfully complete the first
7-week session for Paralegal I, break for one week, and complete the second
7-week session for Paralegal II. Each session requires passing six tests and
completing two legal document-writing assignments (one assignment in
Paralegal II). Textbook cost is approximately $270 and must be purchased through the

ADVANCED PARALEGAL CERTIFICATE COURSE
This program picks up where the Core Requirements of the Paralegal Certificate
Program© left off. Since the law reflects virtually every part
of our personal and business lives, in order to operate effectively
in business and the community, it is essential that everyone have a
strong understanding of the law and legal issues. Completing both the
Core Requirements and the Advanced Requirements of the Paralegal Certificate
Program provides comprehensive training and skills that should enable
graduates to work in the quickly-growing paralegal profession. This
Paralegal Certificate Program has also been designed for those who wish
to learn about the American legal system, to litigate their own cases
on a pro se basis, to assist their retained attorneys in litigating
their own cases, to prepare themselves to excel during their first year
of law school, to work in a law office in a position other than that
of a paralegal or attorney, or to work as a paralegal outside of the
state of California.
LEGAL SECRETARY CERTIFICATE COURSE
This intensive program is designed for both beginning and experienced
secretaries who are interested in improving their skills and working
more efficiently within the law office. Students will study such topics
as: legal terminology; legal process; jurisdiction and venue; ethics;
written communications including letters, pleadings, discovery, notices
and motions; filing procedures, billing and accounting; time management;
records management; computers, word and data processing; legal research;
memoranda preparation, and citation format.
LEGAL INVESTIGATION CERTIFICATE COURSE
This exciting course is designed to teach legal investigation to those
interested in pursuing a new career and those presently working in the
legal field. At the end of the course, students will be qualified to
assist attorneys, paralegals, insurance companies and private businesses,
as well as state and federal government agencies, in the process of
civil and criminal investigation. Students will also be taught how to
create a freelance investigation business. Included subject areas are:
arson investigation, product liability investigation, personal injury
and traffic accident forensics, employment accidents, investigation
of financial and equity matters, professional malpractice and negligence,
skip-tracing, and the role of a legal investigator in preparing for
civil and criminal litigation.
ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION COURSE
This intensive course is designed to train and qualify students to develop
or participate in conflict mediation processes. Participants will review
the growth and application of settlement options in the United States.
The course focuses on both traditional and non-traditional dispute resolution
options. Alternative Dispute Resolution (Mediation) is geared for all
professionals who are focused on "interest-based bargaining."
This course takes the mystery out of settlement processes and focuses
on reaching reasonable solutions. Successful graduates of this non-credit
course will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Topics include:
Why Conflicts Escalate, Why Mediation Works, The Mediation Process,
The Role of the Mediator, Coming to an Agreement, Problems Encountered
in Mediation, Developing ADR Programs for Government, Business and Personal
Disputes, and Divorce Settlement Mediation.
LEGALNURSE CONSULTANT TRAINING COURSE
This exciting program prepares Registered Nurses and Physician's Assistants
for a career in the legal field as legal nurse consultants. Building
on the medical education and clinical experience of RNs and PAs, this
course provides the RN and PA with fundamental skills necessary to advise
law firms, health care providers, insurance companies, and governmental
agencies regarding medically related issues and to appear in court as
expert witnesses. The course teaches legal concepts related to the health
care industry, as well as the role a legal nurse consultant might play
in such litigation areas as the following: medical malpractice, toxic
torts, products liability, personal injury, emotional distress, wrongful
death, mental capacity, criminal law, and workers' compensation. Any
RN or PA interested in entering the legal field can benefit from the
education provided by this course. The course is also open to anyone
interested in the field of forensic testimony and medical-legal issues,
but participants without an RN or PA background might not be able to
take the LNCC exam after graduation. Legal Nurse Consultant Certified
(LNCC) is a discretionary test separate from this training course that
experienced registered nurses graduating from this course may decide
to sit for. LNCC test eligibility requirements are discussed during
this training course.
VICTIM ADVOCACY CERTIFICATE COURSE
Participants will be prepared to work in victim advocacy arenas, such
as domestic violence shelters, crisis centers, crisis hotlines, and
with state and county governments to assist crime victims in progressing
through the criminal justice system and toward successful recovery.
Course topics include legal terminology, legal process, legislation
regarding victims rights, jurisdiction and venue, ethics, effects of
victimization on the victim, victim advocate skills, guardianships and
crisis intervention. It also covers counseling skills for victims of
assault, battery, robbery, domestic violence, sexual assault, child
abuse, murder and homicide.
GRE STANDARDIZED TEST PREPARATION
COURSE
Applying to Graduate school usually means taking the GRE (Graduate Record
Examination) General Test. Our GRE Preparation Course is a must! This
unique online format combines the convenience of independent study with
the camaraderie of a classroom environment. Our online course is divided
into two separate courses, one to prepare you for the verbal sections
of the GRE and one to prepare you for the quantitative sections.
GMAT STANDARDIZED TEST PREPARATION
COURSE
Most MBA programs across the country and internationally require a Graduate
Management Admission Test score for program admission. Our GMAT Preparation
Course is a must! Our online course is divided into two separate courses,
one to prepare you for the verbal sections of the GMAT and one to prepare
you for the quantitative sections.
