Welcome to the Office of Disability Services (DS), a part of Student Life and Services at USC Aiken.
In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, USC Aiken recognizes a student with a disability as anyone who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Disability Services coordinates the arrangement of reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities. All accommodations are individualized and confidential based on the nature of the disability and the academic venue.
This site is designed to offer easy access to information and services for students, faculty and staff of USC Aiken, as well as high school guidance counselors and other interested visitors.
The mission of the Office of Disability Services is to facilitate the transition of students with disabilities into the University environment and to provide appropriate accommodations for each student’s special abilities in order to insure equal access to all programs, activities, and services at USC Aiken.
Disability Services will:
provide support services to students with disabilities, including, but not limited to, advocacy, adaptive materials and exam proctoring.
make arrangements for program accommodations in accordance with recent documentation.
assist the University in complying with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ( ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Ac of 1973.
provide liaison activities between faculty and students with disabilities.
maintain and protect the confidentiality of student records as required by law.
serve as an information and referral service on disability-related issues by providing current and accurate information regarding assistive products, programs, and services to current and prospective students, faculty, and staff.
consult with public school special education administrators, rehabilitation, or school counselors, and parents and prospective students concerning the University’s services.
provide an open and welcoming environment by creating a place for students to meet, share, study, organize and obtain information pertaining to disability-related issues and opportunities.
Disability Services will not:
perform psycho-educational diagnostic assessments.
offer self-contained classes or training programs for students with disabilities.
ask faculty to compromise the quality of instruction or evaluation or to sacrifice class standards.
