- All required information and essay should be sent in the body of an email to disabledpersons@aol.com . Do not send any attachments because we will not open the attachments and your email will be deleted. If all the required information is not present, your email will be deleted.
- Proper spelling and grammar is imperative. As college students, you need to hold yourself to a high standard. Chronic misspellings and bad grammar will hurt your chances of winning
- You need to be enrolled as a full time student in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university to be eligible. Prior to the winner being awarded the scholarship, that individual will have to present to disABLEDperson Inc. an unofficial transcript from their school. If the winner can not demonstrate full time enrollment in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university, then disABLEDperson Inc. will award the scholarship to another student.
- Students must be citizens of the United States of America and enrolled in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university in the United States. Please be prepared to demonstrate citizenship if we ask.
- The definition of disability that disABLEDperson Inc. uses for its scholarship competition is: A disadvantage or deficiency, especially a physical or mental impairment that interferes with or prevents normal achievement in a particular area. Something that hinders or incapacitates . The winner will have to offer proof of their disability. This can be done simply by the contestant being registered with the Office of Disability at their respective institution.
- The length of the essay must not exceed 1000 words. Essays exceeding that number will be disqualified.
- All decisions made by disABLEDperson Inc. are final.
- Required Information: You must present to us in the body of an email either as a heading to your essay or at the end your full name, address, email address, phone number, school, major, age and GPA. Also note if you are physically impaired, mentally impaired, visually impaired, hearing impaired.
- Failure to present any of this information will result in disqualification.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Stanley E. Jackson Scholarship Awards honor Stanley E. Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a pioneer and leader in the special education community. He was a former Executive Director for the Council for Exceptional Children and started the Foundation Scholarship Awards nearly 15 years ago. The applicant must be entering college or vocational school for the very first time.
The Sara Conlon Memorial Scholarship Award honors Sara “Sally” Conlon, a devoted education professional and dedicated friend. Sara's last professional position was with the Council for Exceptional Children where she served as the representative for the student CEC Chapters. In light of her contributions, her friends, family and co-workers have established a fund to support a student who will major in the field of special education. Please note: You do not need to be entering college or vocational school for the first time to be eligible for this specific award.
Applicants must be anticipating enrollment for the FIRST TIME in full-time, post-secondary education or training during 2005-2006 and provide evidence of financial need for SEJ. Different recipients will be selected for each award category. No person will receive more than one award, and past recipients are ineligible for current or future awards. You may only apply for ONE award. Award amount is $500.00.
The following criteria must be met for each award:
- Award #1: Applicant must have a disability.
- Award #2: Applicant must have a disability and also be a member of an ethnic minority group, such as African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian.
- Award #3: Applicant must have a disability and also demonstrate gifted and/or talented abilities in any one or more of the following categories: general intellectual ability, specific academic aptitude, creativity, leadership, visual or performing arts. (Application must include statement from gifted/talented service provider).
- Award #4: Same as Award #3 and applicant must also be a member of an ethnic minority group, such as African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian. (Application must include statement from gifted/talented service provider).
