ELIBIBILITY CRITERIA:
- All legally blind, full-time students
- Admitted to academic and vocational training programs at the post-secondary level
- Part-time students who are working full-time are also invited to apply for the John Hebner Memorial Scholarship.
- A cumulative grade point average of 3.3 is generally required, but extenuating circumstances may be considered for certain scholarships.
- Applicants must be legally blind in both eyes.
SCHOLARSHIP NAME: AER William and Dorothy Ferrell Scholarships
ORGANIZATION: Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired
AWARD AMOUNT: $500.00
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Applications must be received in the AER central office by April 15 of even numbered years (i.e., 2000, 2002, 2004, etc.). Scholarships are awarded in conjunction with AER’s biennial international conference, which is held during the summer of the even numbered years.

ELIBIBILITY CRITERIA:
- Full time students with low vision with a vision range from Low Vision (20/70 in the better eye with best possible correction, or a field restricted to no greater than 30 degrees), to those who, in spite of a more significant vision or field restriction, are still able to benefit from the use of low vision devices to perform daily visual tasks.
- Applicants must provide a statement from an ophthalmologist indicating that the applicant’s visual acuity is no better than 20/70 in the better eye with best possible correction, or is limited to a field of 30 degrees.
Academic Requirements
- Applicants must be either freshman who have been accepted to a university of their choosing, or continuing students in good standing.
- Prospective Freshmen students, as well as those choosing to attend another university in the fall, MUST provide acceptance letters from the university of their choosing.
- Applicants must have maintained a Grade Point Average of at least 3.0 (“B”) on a scale where 4.0 (“A”) is the highest attainable GPA.

- Applicants must be legally blind (i.e., have a best corrected visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye, and/or a visual field of less than 20 degrees).
- Scholarships are based on academic and other achievements.
- Candidates are not required to demonstrate financial need
- Applicants must be US citizens, and reside and attend school in any of the following states: CT, DE, FL, GA, MA, MD, ME, NC, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, SC, VA, WV and VT, or Washington, DC.
- Proof of citizenship will be required of all winners.
- Previous winners (in any category) of Lighthouse Scholarships are ineligible, as are current Lighthouse employees and members of their immediate families.

- Scholarships are based on academic and other achievements.
- Candidates are not required to demonstrate financial need
