On a rainy February 11th, a group of twelve students from Dr. Lintner’s Elementary Social Studies Methods course attended Geofest in Columbia, SC. Geofest is a bi-annual one-day conference sponsored by the South Carolina Geographic Alliance which supports geographic curriculum design and implementation in South Carolina’s K-12 schools. The students chose sessions ranging from incorporating language arts into geography lessons, understanding population density, to using interactive technology in geographic classrooms. Those students in attendance were: Connie Craven, Nathan Lobaugh, April Mole, Kimberley Pace, Melissa Padgett, Traci Poole, Anita Rentz, Joyce Rohde, Lacey Rohde, Melissa Ulmer, Deree Ward, and Stacey Waugh.
In November, 2005, pre-service teacher Pennye Mock presented a session entitled, Gain Without Pain: Fostering Fluency Using Readers Theatre at the Kappa Delta Pi Concovation in Orlando, FL. Rick Filotei, President of Kappa Delta Pi, represented the USCA chapter at the Delegate Assembly.
In February, 2006, Officers of Kappa Delta Pi, Andrea Williams, Sarah White, and Danielle Harrell attended the South Carolina International Reading Association Conference in Mytrle Beach, SC.
Danielle Harrell attended the South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children Conference in Columbia in October, 2005 and the South Carolina International Reading Association Conference in Myrtle Beach in February, 2006.
