Margaret Riedell is a Professor of Reading Education at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Prior to coming to USCA, she taught second grade in the Fort Jackson Elementary Schools and later worked in a resource setting with students who were learning disabled and those who were English language learners. During her doctoral studies, she worked as a reading clinician and as an instructor on the USC Columbia campus. She is a former President of the South Carolina State Council of the International Reading Association.  Dr. Riedell served as the Interim Head and Head of the School of Education from 1990-2001. During that time the School of Education established the first master’s degree program at USCA in Elementary Education and attained its initial accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. At the present time, Dr. Riedell serves as Coordinator of the undergraduate program in Elementary Education. For the past twenty years she has had the pleasure of teaching children’s literature and reading education courses at USCA. Her current areas of interest are literature circles, multicultural children’s books, and the use of academic blogs in her children’s literature class.
