The
Ruth Patrick Science Education Center (RPSEC) (http://rpsec.usca.edu/)
is a cooperative effort by the University of South Carolina at Aiken,
local industry, and public school districts in the Central Savannah
River Area. The purpose of this effort is to establish a permanent
program for enhancing science and mathematics education in the elementary
and secondary schools of the area. Its hands-on approach to teaching
is designed to help people experience the beauty, the order and the
power of science and mathematics, as well as the interest and fun
of discovery. A visit to the RPSEC enables students, teachers and
the public to experience science and mathematics in a challenging
yet exciting way.
Through the Traveling Science and Mathematics Demonstration program that is housed
at the RPSEC, candidates in the School of Education have access to over 400 science
and mathematics kits and supplies that they can check out and use in the schools..
