The Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Special Education provides preparation for teaching children, youth, and young adults (ages birth through 21) with mild to moderate disabilities. The program provides teacher education candidates with a wide range of practical experiences in public and private education settings. Each teacher education candidate is given a broad liberal arts and general education foundation as well as specific information regarding the abilities and needs of individuals with disabilities and their families.
The program meets the ten content standards established for Special Education Programs by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), which is noted for its rigorous standards. In keeping with the mission of the USCA School of Education, the objectives of the degree will prepare special educators to be knowledgeable in the field, skilled in the art and science of teaching, and dedicated to providing the quality education that every student deserves.
