She was an adjunct and a professional tutor for many years before becoming a full-time instructor in the Department of English and was the Coordinator of the Academic Support Program from 1996-2001. She is currently the English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor and liaison to the Writing Room.
Professor Collins earned her teacher/consultant status for the National Writing Project through participation in the first Aiken Writing Project (AWP) Summer Institute. She will be the Director of the Young Writers Camp for the 2008 AWP Summer Institute. Also, each summer she teaches the Academic Preparation classes for middle and high school students during USCA’s Kids in College.
Her academic service includes the First Year Experience (FYE) and Faculty Welfare (FWC) Committees.
Academic memberships include National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), South Carolina Council of Teachers of English (SCCTE), Georgia Writers Association, and the Augusta Poetry Group. She currently serves as president of the Authors Club of Augusta.
