Stephen Gardner studied at USC Columbia with George Garrett and at Oklahoma State University with Gordon Weaver.
A former Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, he has been a member of the USC Aiken faculty since 1972, teaching poetry and creative writing.
His poems, stories, essays, and scholarship have appeared widely in such publications as Southern Review, Poetry Northwest, Connecticut Review, New Orleans Review, Kansas Quarterly, California Quarterly, and Texas Review. His first poetry collection, This Book Belongs to Eva (Palanquin Press), was published in 1996.
He is the former editor and publisher of The Devil's Millhopper Press and a past President of the Board of Governors of the South Carolina Academy of Authors. He and his old dog live in Aiken, SC.
