Andrew Geyer joined the English Department in the Fall Semester of 2008.  He earned his Ph.D. in Creative Writing and American Literature from Texas Tech University in 2003.  He also earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of South Carolina-Columbia, and B.A.’s in English and Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin.

 

Dr. Geyer's first novel, Meeting the Dead, was released by University of New Mexico Press in April 2007.  His debut short story cycle, Whispers in Dust and Bone (TTUP 2003) won the silver medal for Short Fiction in the Foreword Magazine Book of the Year Awards, and was named a finalist for the John Gardner Fiction Book Award.  One of the stories in the collection won the Spur Award from the Western Writers of America for best work of Short Fiction published in 2003.  The author of more than two dozen published stories, Geyer's award-winning fiction has appeared in numerous literary magazines and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

 

Having grown up on a working cattle ranch in Southwest Texas, Dr. Geyer has since lived in Austin, Texas; Columbia, South Carolina; Tishomingo, Oklahoma; Lubbock, Texas; Russellville, Arkansas; and Aiken, South Carolina.  A lover of the outdoors, and an avid runner and canoeist, Geyer has traveled extensively in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, and North Africa.
