Gender Equity, Diversity, & Welfare Issues

USCA Athletic Task Force

Listed below are some potential areas of issue in regards to Gender Equity, Diversity, and Welfare subcommittee:

q       The effect that current fundraising distribution within the athletic department has on all teams.  Does it meet the requirements of the gender equity guidelines?  While other Peach Belt schools have similar policies, we still are unsure about whether we are meeting the minimum requirements set forth by the gender equity guidelines. 

q       While the athletic department has actively tried to recruit quality female and minority candidates for coaching positions, what methods can be used to ensure a diverse and qualified applicant pool? 

q       How equitable is the distribution of assistant coaches across the department?  For example, how many assistant coaches does men’s basketball have compared to women’s basketball?  How are decisions on budgets made in terms of staffing?

q       The need for separate coaches for the soccer and tennis programs is obvious (especially in the area of soccer).  What should be done to alleviate the problem?  How are salaries determined for coaches with “double duty”?

q       What should the role of the dance team and cheerleading squads be within the athletic department?  Should they be considered full athletes and therefore adequately funded by the athletic department or should their GPA’s and such not be included within the athletic department and they be funded by another source?

q       What financial impact does recruiting international student athletes have on recruiting in state student athletes?  What do international student athletes contribute to the campus community and how does it contribute to the mission of the university? 

q       How is traffic flow from the new facility going to effect students, staff, faculty, and the Aiken community?

q       Are the transportation policies for student athletes adequate and how often are the policies reviewed (i.e. money for meals, how many athletes are assigned to a hotel room, transportation to events)?

q       Are all athletic facilities ADA compliant?
