IMPORTANT UPDATE ON LIFE AND PALMETTO FELLOWS SCHOLARSHIP ENHANCEMENTS

House Bill 4408 became law on May 22, 2008, changing some of the requirements to qualify for the LIFE and Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Enhancements.

Effective immediately, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipients who successfully complete at least fourteen credit hours of instruction in mathematics or life or physical science or a combination of both in their first year may qualify for the Enhancement. The 14 hours of credit can be any combination of math and/or life or physical science. The requirement that at least 6 hours of the 14 must be math and at least 6 hours must be science has been removed from the law. Also, the laboratory course requirement has been removed. The 14 credit hour requirement is effective beginning with the freshman class of Fall 2007.

All other eligibility requirements still apply. Click here for additional, more detailed information about the LIFE and Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Enhancements.

2008-2009 SC Teachers Loan Applications

The SC Teachers Loan applications for the 2008-2009 academic year are available in the Office of Financial Aid and on the website of South Carolina Student Loan. Click here for the online application and information. This application is for the SC Teachers Loan or the Career Changers Program. Students may apply for one program or the other, but can only receive funds from one program.

A continuing undergraduate applying for the SC Teachers Loan must have successfully completed the Praxis 1 Exam.  Students with an SAT score of 1100 or greater (1650 for exams taken on or after March 1, 2005) or an ACT score of 24 or greater are exempt from the Praxis 1 requirement.  The Teacher Cadet program is no longer a requirement.

SC Student Loan will continue to accept applications until funding for this program is exhausted.
