  • Be accepted to or currently attending a graduate program leading to a doctorate or a terminal master's degree in an eligible field of study at an accredited institution of higher education
  • At time of application, must not have completed first full year of doctoral or MFA study
  • Must qualify to receive Federal student financial assistance
  • U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident of the U.S. or citizen of any one of the Freely Associated States

  • Must be maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher (out of 4.0)
  • Must be engaged in research relating to the African Diaspora
  • Must be the author of an original, cutting-edge research paper on an aspect of the African Diaspora
