Student Health Center

What to do when the Health Center is closed.

Students are often unsure of what to do when the SHC is closed and they become ill or injured.  Some of their most frightening times can be just after they come to college as a Freshmen, they become ill and cannot get hold of their parents on the phone to find out what to do.

Students at USCA are fortunate to have several options when SHC isn’t opened.  Our community has Ask-A-Nurse® HealthService Center, a 24-Hour/7-Day-a-Week Nurse Help Line.  Ask-A-Nurse ®HealthService Center is operated by University Health Care System and staffed totally by registered nurses with a minimum of 5 years experience who are trained to handle all types of calls, with all types of symptoms.  They do not diagnose, instead they provide accurate information taken from physician approved guidelines, reference manuals and direct callers to the appropriate level of care.  If the student can wait until the SHC opens the following day he will be provided with appropriate comforted measures, if the student needs to be directed to the Emergency Services Department or local Prompt Care he/she will be directed so in a reassuring manner.
