Performing a Manual Scan with Trend
(Updated 08/16/2006)
If you suspect your system may have viruses (for example you've just received an eMail with a known virus attachment, or Trend has alerted you there may be a virus present on your system), you should run a virus scan immediately.
To perform a manual scan with Trend, please follow the instructions below. Please be aware that running a scan will use up most of your system's resources during the scan and your system response will be slow and sluggish during the scan.
If needed, the Helpdesk staff can also assist you with changing the schedule. If you require assistance, contact the Helpdesk at extension 4357 (on-campus) or 803-641-3502 (off-campus). .
Locate the blue icon show here in your Task Tray. (It will look similar to this, but may have a slightly different yellow symbol)
Right-click the blue Trend icon and choose Office Scan Main as shown here to configure the manual scan.
The screen below will be displayed. Click the box next to your C-drive (or any drives listed as "Local Drive"). A green checkmark should appear. Once you have marked the desired drives, click the Scan button to begin the system scan.

Within a few seconds you will see a screen similar to the one shown below. The screen will remain throughout the system scan, which can take an hour or more as it scans all files on your local hard drives. For best results please do not Pause or Stop the scan once started unless necessary.
If any problems are found on your system, you will be notified by Trend. You'll see either a simple notification message that the problem has been corrected, or further instructions for correcting more complicated issues.
If for any reason Trend is unable to correct a problem with your system and provides you with instructions for removing the problem manually, or if you have any questions about the process, please contact the Helpdesk immediately at: 4357 (on-campus) or 803-641-3502 (off-campus).
NOTE: Be sure to leave your system powered on and logged in during while the scan is completing. Also, please be aware than while the system scan is running your computer will likely be slow to respond and sluggish. The full scan will likely take an hour or more to complete.
