Office 2007 Compatibility Pack

(Updated 08/14/2007)

CSD has installed the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack on all campus computers. This allows Office 2003 users to view files created by the newer Office 2007. Without the Compatibility Pack, Office 2007 files will cause an error and cannot be opened.

Files created with Office 2007 have a different file extension than previous Office versions. Office 2007 programs use the following file extensions by default:

Word: DOCX

Excel: XLSX

Powerpoint: PPTX

Access: AACDB

If for any reason you cannot view an Office 2007 file, you may need to reinstall the Compatibility Pack. To reinstall, or upgrade, the Pack follow the instructions below.
