Student Access to

Fileshare and Home Folders

(Updated 04/29/2009)

Accessing files stored at J-drive and K-drive from a non-USCA computer is a simple two step process. First you'll need to establish a Clean Access or VPN connection to USCA. Then, you'll either connect directly to the server, or use one of the Alternate Methods explained below.

There are a few things to keep in mind when accessing your folders remotely:

  • A high speed (DSL or Cable) internet connection is suggested for best results.
  • You will only have access to your personal J drive and only those K drive folders related to your instructors and current classes.
  • If you are on-campus (but on a personal computer), you must first log into Clean Access. If you are off-campus, you must first create a VPN connection. You will not be able to connect to the servers with until a Clean Access or VPN connection has been established. If you need to create a VPN connection please see the VPN Set-Up Instructions for PC or the VPN Set-Up Instructions for Mac.

Use the instructions below to connect to your remote folders. If you run into any problems with the connection, see the Troubleshooting section at the end of this FAQ.

Alternate Connection Method for EdTech WWW Server on MACs

If the instructions above don't work, try doing the following instead.

Connect to the USCA network via VPN, launch the Fetch program by clicking the dog icon on your launch bar. If you don't see the icon, you may have to launch the program directly. To do this, Click GO on the Apple menu bar. Click Applications. Locate the Fetch icon and click. This should launch your program.

You will then be shown the screen below. Ensure that you fill in all information exactly as listed, except "Username" and "Password", which should be replaced with those for your own USCA account.. Be sure to enter your entire USCA eMail address in the username field. Your password is the same password you use for your USCA eMail.

After clicking connect on the screen above, you will be shown a listing of all the various student folders within the EdTech WWW server. Locate your folder (this is usually the same as your USCA Username). Open the folder. You may now drag and drop files and folders from your desktop to the remote server. If you'd prefer you can also use the Get button to download files from the server or the Put button to upload files to the server from your local computer.
