FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I participate in the USCA Honors Program?

Freshmen who are eligible to participate in the Honors program receive a letter of invitation that instructs them to send relevant information and a one- to two-page essay explaining what they would contribute to or expect to gain from the Honors Program to the Honors Director, Dr. Elaine Lacy, at ElaineL@usca.edu or to Honors@usca.edu

What if I'm not admitted as a freshman?

If you are not invited to apply as a freshman – or apply and are not admitted – you will have another chance to join the program if you complete 24 semester hours in your first year with a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Will I have to maintain a minimum GPA to remain in the program?

Yes. You must maintain a 3.5 GPA.  Further, all courses applied to honors credit must be passed with a grade of "B" or better to remain in the program.

What if my GPA falls below 3.5?

Should your GPA fall below 3.5 you will be placed in probationary status.  You may continue to take Honors courses during your probation, but you must bring your GPA back up to 3.5 by the end of the following semester to be reinstated in the Honors Program.  Should you not be able to do so, you will be dismissed from the program.

Can I take Honors courses in the summer?

Most honors program courses will be offered only during the Fall and Spring semesters. Some colloquia may be available during summer sessions.
