Masterworks Chorale is a community-based ensemble affiliated with the University of South Carolina Aiken. As part of its mission and outreach, Masterworks Chorale seeks to increase awareness and appreciation of choral music through performances which demonstrate the choir's love of music and dedication to singing. In addition, the organization supports student musical development through its Young Artist Competition and scholarships for students at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Charitable contributions enable Masterworks Chorale to meet operational costs and continue its outreach to young, aspiring artists.
From its inception by founding director Ron Wilcott and continuing through the recent leadership of Sandra Field, Masterworks Chorale has created an important niche for itself as an outlet for the choral arts in the Aiken community. Now in its tenth season, Masterworks Chorale is excited to present another season of music. As the name of the ensemble suggests, Masterworks Chorale dedicates itself to performing timeless and beloved music in the choral repertoire. In recent years, Masterworks has performed Requiem settings by Gabriel Fauré and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem), Schubert's Mass in A-flat Major (D. 676), and most recently the complete Messiah by Georg Frideric Handel with the up-and-coming American countertenor, Jay Carter.
Participation is open to all who have a desire to sing and enjoy the company of fellow musicians.
Rehearsals begin at 7:00 p.m. every Monday on the campus of USCA. To join Masterworks Chorale or inquire further about the organization, please contact Dr. Joel Scraper at 803/641-3306 or JoelS@usca.edu.
