Background

I have always been interested in education and in mathematics. My first teaching experience was with a sixth grade class of 45 students at St. Andrews Elementarty in Columbia, SC. I became a "stay at home" mom when I had the first of my four children. Even while at home I took mathematics courses because of my life-long love and enjoyment of mathematics. As the last of my children entered school, I, too, returned to the classroom to take undergraduate mathematics and computer science courses. Very shortly I was taking graduate courses in mathematics leading to two separate graduate degrees, one in mathematics and one in mathematics education. In 1981, I joined the USCA faculty as the Math Lab Supervisor/Instructor. Now I am an Instructor. I have enjoyed teaching many different mathematics courses ranging from remedial mathematics courses to graduate courses for teachers. Some of my teaching assignments have led me to take additional courses in accounting, adult education, engineering, computer science, probability, statistics, and discrete mathematics in order to be better prepared to teach my students. Recently my interests have leaned towards finite mathematics, discrete mathematics, and applied statistics. I really enjoy statistics! I have graded AP Statistics exams in Nebraska and been involved with department members as we change the statistics course to be a more applied course in the class room. I am enjoying new students and returning students in my classes each semester and have had to say 'goodbye' to many of them as they proudly graduate.
