COURSE OBJECTIVES: |
In order to satisfactorily complete this course, students must develop a thorough understanding of the number system, the mechanics of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in the decimal system of numbers using both whole numbers and fractions, exponentiation, factoring, ratios and proportions, methods of estimation, and basic probability and statistics. |
HOMEWORK: |
The attached course syllabus provides details of daily reading assignments and assigned homework exercises for the entire semester. Completed homework assignments are due at the beginning of the class meeting following the date on which the exercises are assigned. HOMEWORK EXERCISES ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THIS COURSE. STUDENTS CANNOT REASONABLY EXPECT TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS NEEDED FOR SUCCESS IN THIS COURSE UNLESS HOMEWORK EXERCISES ARE COMPLETED AS SCHEDULED. IN ORDER TO ASSESS TIMELY COMPLETION OF HOMEWORK, HOMEWORK EXERCISES WILL BE COLLECTED AT RANDOM, AND FOR THIS REASON IT IS NECESSARY TO BRING ALL OF YOUR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS TO EACH CLASS MEETING. HOMEWORK OFFERED FOR LATE SUBMISSION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND A FAILING GRADE WILL BE ASSIGNED. |
TESTS: |
Three tests will be administered in accordance with the attached course syllabus. One entire class meeting (50 minutes) will be allotted for completion of each test. Students will not normally be permitted to take tests either before or after the scheduled test time. |
ATTENDANCE: |
Attendance at class is required and will be periodically recorded. Students are responsible for all material covered in class regardless of their attendance. Students who do not attend class should not expect individual tutoring from Asst. Prof. May outside of class. |

COURSE GRADING: |
A numerical grade will be assigned to tests and to the final examination. Homework will be evaluated as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Correspondence between numerical and letter grades will be: |
