USC Aiken Inducts 15 Students into Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society

Asa Williams, John Atkins, David Gay, Erica Oates, Emily Weigle, Alison Walker, Keol Newton, Cory Anderson, Susan Flory, John Speer, Sharon Landy, Jakob Scheuer, Tiajuana Smith, Courtney Livingston, and Melissa New were among the 15 students inducted into the University of South Carolina Aiken chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society on Friday, April 13.

 

Invitations to join Beta Gamma Sigma, the only scholastic honor society recognized by AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business – , were extended to the top 10 percent of senior and top seven percent of second semester junior business majors.

 

Williams, a junior accounting major from Hopkins, is a 2004 graduate of Lower Richland High School. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Asia Williams and the granddaughter of Hattie and Frank McCoy. In addition to Beta Gamma Sigma at USC Aiken, Williams is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

 

Smith, a senior finance major from Batesburg-Leesville, is a 2004 graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School. She is the daughter of Elveridge and Charlene Smith and the great-granddaughter of Willie Mae Morris of Batesburg. In addition to Beta Gamma Sigma at USC Aiken, Smith is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., serves as treasurer of Circle K International, is a Minority Achievement Program mentor, and is a member of the University Judicial Board as well as Gamma Beta Phi National Honor Society.

 

Newton, a junior from Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago, is a 2002 graduate of Fatima College. He is the son of Olivia Newton and George Newton and the grandson of Charles Boney and Louris Newton. In addition to Beta Gamma Sigma at USC Aiken, Newton is a member of Globe International Club, the School of Business Student Advisory Board, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and Pacer Spirit. He is also a member of USCA men's soccer team, a Resident Assistant, and a member of Gamma Beta Phi.

 

Landy, a junior management major from Aiken, is a 1989 graduate of Wagener- Salley High School. Originally from Wagener, she and husband Reginald currently reside in Aiken with their three children: Reggie, Ryan, and Lauryn. Her parents are Clarence and Willie Mae Smith. Grandparents are the late Joseph & Louise Smith and the late Willie & Naomi Briggs. In addition to Beta Gamma Sigma, Landy is a member of Beta Gamma Phi and Sigma Alpha Lambda honor societies.

 

Speer, a junior management major from Aiken, graduated in May 2004 from a home-school program. He is the son of Jeff and Cindy Speer. Speer is also a member of Grace Brethren Church, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, the School of Business Administration Student Advisory Board, and SAM.

 

Scheuer, a junior accounting major originally from Troy, Mich., is a 1990 graduate of Troy Athens High School. He is the son of Marion and the late James Scheuer and the grandson of the late Russell and Helen Thorley and the late Joseph and Helen Scheuer. He currently resides in Aiken.

Livingston, a junior accounting major from Blackville, is a 2004 graduate of Blackville-Hilda High School. She is the daughter of Janice and James Livingston. In addition to Beta Gamma Sigma at USC Aiken, Livingston serves as vice president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is a member of Pacer Spirit.

 

New, a senior accounting major, is a 1986 graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. She and husband Ted New, Jr. reside in Blackville and have one daughter, Tabitha. Her parents are Hampton and Gearldine Carroll.

 

Other inductees were John Atkins of Gilbert; David Gay, Emily Weigle, and Alison Walker of North Augusta; Cory Anderson of Brunson; and Susan Flory of Aiken.
