USC Aiken Students to Dance for a Good Cause

University Plans First-Ever Dance Marathon

January 25, 2008

A group of over 100 students and faculty members will dance the night away for charity at the University’s first-ever Dance Marathon. During the 16-hour event, participants will attempt to remain on the dance floor from Friday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. to Saturday, Feb. 2 at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds from the Dance Marathon will provide funding for the Medical College of Georgia’s Children’s Medical Center.

During the event, 15 teams of students and faculty from various campus organizations must remain on their feet during the entire 16-hour Marathon. Prior to the event, participants solicited pledges from sponsors to be based on the number of completed dance hours. Games and activities, including relay races, limbo contests, and karaoke, will take place throughout the event to keep the dancers alert and entertained. Participants will take part in a line dance choreographed by members of the Dance Marathon Committee at the top of each hour.

According to Angel Lee, assistant director of student involvement , “All of the money raised for Dance Marathon will go to MCG’s Children’s Wing to help them buy equipment and supplies. This is a great way for college students to get involved with a great local cause and have fun while doing it!”

The team who raises the most money will be recognized at the closing ceremony on Saturday morning.
